IMPORTANT NOTES


1. Check out the TEAM SIGN-UP thread so you know exactly who is on your team.

2. Communicate with your teammates to arrive at your concensus selections for the contest.

3. Only one post allowed per team. Appoint one player to post on behalf of the entire team. All eight races must be posted at the same time. Please ensure you include your Team Number when posting selections.

4. Coupled entries are considered one betting interest.

5. Once posts are made they may not be changed. (except for normal site editing period)

6. Posts must be made one full minute prior to the official DRF "off time".

7. Teams that fail to post on time will only be scored on races run one full minute after their post.

8. All games this season will be scored as "open competitions" with no Divisional matchups.

9. Two options for posting selections:

3 Selection Method
3 – 7 – 4 (12 – 8) top 3 picks with the alternates being 12 & 8 in that order. Team would receive $6.00 payouts for #3; $4.00 payouts for #7; and $2.00 payouts for #4 for Win/Place/Show (assuming no scratches)
Team would receive $3.00 Exacta Box Payout using #3, #7 & #4

2 Selection Method
3 – 3 – 7 (4 – 12) top 2 picks with the alternates being 4 & 12 in that order.
Team would receive $6.00 payouts for #3; $4.00 payouts for #3; and $2.00 payouts for #7 for Win/Place/Show (assuming no scratches)

Really? You think that would have been fair?

The rule is there because it helps place LESS of a burden on the SCOREKEEPER. It has nothing to do with someone "cheating" because the time stamps tell you when the races were posted and you can compare to the off time on the Equibase charts.

This specific instance is clearly NOT a case of a team gaining some sort of advantage that nobody else had. Therefore, it is a case where the discretion of the stewards comes into place. Since it seems that Ted and I agree (with Jay not available), I think the issue should be settled, don't you?

Now, if some teams out there take this as a sign they can go and post their selections piecemeal, well, they would be mistaken. As that would put an unfair burden on the scorekeeper.

Each incident of rules violation will be handled as they occur and the circumstances will be taken into account before forming a verdict. Therefore, all teams should assume that if they go and post their selections piecemeal, there is a chance that some of their selections will be voided.

Just to document the reasoning for permitting Team 6 to make 2 posts this week - the Contest Management (Track Collector, LAP_520 and myself) looked at this post of Jay Trotter's from Week 2 (http://www.paceadvantage.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1563237&postcount=62) where he told Team 40 that in the future they were allowed only 1 post (referring to Team 40's posts #53 and #54 that week 4 minutes apart - very similar to Team 6's 2 posts this week).

If Jay had written something like 'all teams, going forward, are allowed only 1 post' - that would have been a working precendent (in addition to the clearly stated Rule). So, we're going to be generous and apply 'the spirit of the game', as Mike says. Besides ease of scoring, I believe another reason for the only 1 post rule was that multiple posting as the events proceed might permit a team to make different choices than they would have at the beginning (e.g. they might be way behind and choose long shots to try to catch up). In BOTH the noted cases, this was not the circumstance at all, nor was it difficult to score - so it was easy enough to permit that to happen - along with a warning.

I think this issue has been clearly stated now, and resolved for the rest of the contest: one post only. The spirit of the game has prevailed!

TedThat's been their modus operandi through the years, and while it sometimes results in a spectacular blowout in any given week, I'm not sure how well that strategy leads to consistent results on a weekly basis, which I believe is the key to making the playoffs.

But I indeed congratulate them as well...they get the ass-kicking award of the week, that's for sure.

Moving forward...

Jay Trotter is away next week as is Ted Craven. I have an appointment that I cannot get out of... ( Tax "person" calling ).

We, ( Ted and myself ) have been communicating, and still are, as to the status of scoring the February 1st PAIHL contest.

I have offered to score the contest after the races are over and I am back home .. thinking around 7:30 pm So, if you are wondering where I am next week, it is not because of issues this week,,, it is because of MY personal issues on February 1st.

Word will be posted as to what, how, and when the scoring will be done. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Wishing you continued success in all those other non-PA contests you participate in. Very few can duplicate your success of achieving high placings when competing against hundreds of other sharp handicappers, including those who have already won qualifying tournaments!

As to those who worry they might be forced into duty next week, don't worry as I will fill in if Ted is unable to. (Ted has deliberately avoided getting me involved so as to not "burn me out" over the long contest season. :D

I admire your integrity sir but simply vacating the points for the second posting would be more than enough. It would reestablish confidence in the rules that contest organizers laid out and had us all review and sign off on to avoid this very situation. Kudos to you. I have no problems with a team late posting.
If the computer of the guy/gal who is designated to make the team post goes on the fritz, it's conceivable that it may be difficult to contact the other players and get one of them to submit the selections before the first post.
So if a team posted however late, say after the third race for example, only those remaining races would be considered.
My objection would be to "double posting" (a second post from the team).
Only the first submission should be counted and it should contain all selections for the remaining races.

Well, I made my previous post without reading all the other goings-on. It saddens me to see some of this.

Just from my point of view.....when we write up the rules we do the very best we can and we try to think out situations and address them. At the end of the day we aren't "professional rules writers" and the main thing we want is "the spirit of the game". That is why we (I) made the allowance last week and it was applied again this week.

Obviously, we'll have to address this issue going forward and either choose to be iron-clad or not in applying the written rules.

If no advantage is gained and it clearly was not done to try to get over, count the picks. Even the slightest hint of the picks being after post time or altered, they don't count. Just my two cents...

If you can't trust those running the contest, and making the rulings,

If you had to submit what you had at deadline it was likely that you would have missed entering several of the later races. I can't see how you can disagree with this otherwise you would have submitted on time. The extra time allowed your team to completely configure your card so you did in fact gain an advantage. I guess I am too much of a golfer because my team would have done the honorable thing and said the rules are the rules and called a penalty on ourselves. It is a stick in the eye to the other 100+ players that arranged their schedules accordingly. It wasn't like the rule had any ambiguity whatsoever it is clear has day to the other 39 teams. Good luck going forward. Just had to get this off my chest.

There is no rule that says you can't post after the first event goes off. The rule says only one post per team. If you post that one post after an event has gone off, you'll only lose credit on the event you missed. The rest still count.
