slot machine revenues are down all over in North America. the recent legalization of online casino gambling in New Jersey is way below expectations maybe some of due to banks not accepting credit card transaction.

this is probably good news for racing if someone wants to step in and revamp the whole game. maybe someone will wake up and see that horses are a better draw than slot machines in the long run. horse racing has been around for 800 years now, slot machines less than 80.

Betting on horse races has been around for lot longer than 800 years. The problem horse racing has today is that it may very well regress to the way it was bet on 2,000 years ago with just a few rich people who own the horses betting on the races.

Slot revenues are down at each individual location, but are the totals for the entire country down? Maybe there are just too many casinos. If this is the case it is of no help to horse racing.

Too many states wanting some of the pie. There's only so much to go around.

a card takes too many hours - why can't they run races every 20 minutes and make the show around 3 hours?

If slot revenue is down then the purses for horses races will have to come down eventually. Then the horsemen will want to raise the take out to make up the short fall. Mark my words.

Online gaming in NJ is just another way for the casinos to avoid paying their fair share of taxes. I will say it again, the Meadowlands would have been the spot for casino expansion, now NY and Pa get the windfall, politics at their best!

More likely, the tracks will push to cut racing dates (and thus begins the horsemen eating themselves) unless there is some truth to the theory that the overhead expenses from live racing is justified by increased attendance/revenue to the casino side during live racing.
