Florida is known to be the sunshine state. However, the temperature in Florida can drop dramatically. The lowest temperature ever recorded in Florida was in Tallahassee at 14 degrees. The previous record was also in Tallahassee in 1982 at 15 degrees.

Just sayin' :lol:

NYC = 9.

I don't find this abnormal. We usually get one or two wicked cold spells in Jan, much in the same way we get some extreme heat in July. If you remember, opening day of Saratoga was almost cancelled because of the heat.

It's so cold in Chicago that the Lincoln Park zoo brought the polar bears inside. Think about that for a minute, it's too cold in Chicago for polar bears.

“In Chicago we’re accustomed to weather extremes, with very cold winters and very hot summers, so the animals that are part of our zoo are chosen for their hardiness for winter or summer,” Dewar says. “But this is obviously an excessive extreme. So even animals that are pretty hardy, and would be able to stay outside for normal winters — like the Mongolian camels and polar bear — even those animals we’re keeping indoors.”

I resemble that remark!

It's funny to see Floridians come up to NYC around Christmas time. They can't understand how we can walk around oblivious to the cold when the weather is in the 30s.

I actually went to for a 3 mile run, this morning. It was about 10 degrees at the time.

DJofSD

I believe it. You do get used to it.

I used to ski cross country and I can recall many times being in shirt sleeves while it was fairly cold.

From Twitter earlier today:

In Chicago on Monday, temp was actually 5 degrees colder than it was at South Pole. What happened? Did they hold an honest election? #tcot

Often overlooked is the fact that the seasons are opposite ours south of the Equator. At the South Pole it is like our July, summer.

When I lived in update New York it got down to 20 below one night and I forgot to put my car in the garage. I'm lucking it didn't ruin the car. I had to push it in the garage the next day and borrow a gas powered space heater to thaw out out. But then it started.

27 degrees presently in the Chicago-area...but they say it feels like 12. About 4 inches of new snow on the ground where I live...which has been blown haphazardly by the blistering winds.

I secured the services of a new snow-removal guy this winter, and, encouraged by the mild winter we had last year...I insisted on an arrangement with him where I would pay him individually for every time he shoveled the snow -- instead of agreeing to the typical seasonal contract that I usually sign.

Not one of my most brilliant moves... :bang:

What I hate here in the northeast is when there's not a nice enjoyable transition period between winter and summer. A nice spring, as it were. Instead it seems like it often goes from 30 degrees to 80 in the span of a couple weeks. I'm a guy who really likes a good 60-65 for a couple months ;)
