Does anyone recall the Mad Bomber of the Meadowlands? Back in the early 2000's he would walk into the Raceworld teletheater in his black trenchcoat with a briefcase full of cash, usually taking a seat at one of the 3 computers at the far end of the room. Whispers of "He's here!" reverberated across the back row where I sat. One time he cashed a huge show bet on Azeri at Hollywood Park, but more often than not he'd look for a huge favorite in a short field at, of all places, Cal Expo. Go figure.

We all knew from watching him that this guy, whose name was Mike, did not use a Big M Club card when placing his huge bets, prompting jokes by some about asking him if they could swipe their card when he bets.

I'd say of the 8-10 or so times he came in when I was there, he failed to cash maybe one time. His presence in the room definitely caused a stir.

From a bettors point of view, it interesting part of the article was the mention of being able to show a profit by betting both the jumper horse and the rest of the field. That being made easier by getting rebates on your bets when the jumper horse ran out. If I had a lot of money to bet, that would be something I would look at.
