so a bunch of folks tried to sail into the Antarctic to document the effects of climate change, but their giant research ship got stuck in the 2-3 meter thick ice. several rescue missions have also failed due to thick ice and blizzards. now it seems that they are just waiting it out, hoping that this summer weather breaks enough so that they can be rescued.

Whoops, mother nature does it again. I just read that one of my old ships is headed for Antarctica Link (http://www.nbcnews.com/science/how-icebreakers-work-sometimes-dont-work-2D11821223) I wonder how that will shake out?

For some, this episode is merely further proof of global warming. Somehow.

Those people were never in any danger - Global Warming would have saved them.

  Exactly! All they need is enough patience, food, water of megadoses of faith (and persistent prayer might be helpful) for a blast of warm antarctic air to surround their ship and melt the ice.

Saw this online

"Aussie Taxpayers will foot a $400,000 bill for the rescue of a group of climate scientists, tourists and journalists from a stranded Russian research vessel – an operation that has blown the contingency budget of Australia’s Antarctic program and disrupted its scientific work. "

the hits just keep on coming. The orginal research ship has made it back to New Zealand, while the rescued "researchers" are still laid up in Antarctica.

Akademic Shokalskiy makes it back to port, #spiritofmawason ship of fools still stuck Antarctica (http://wattsupwiththat.com/2014/01/13/akademic-shokalskiy-makes-it-back-to-port-spirtofmawson-fools-still-stuck-in-antarctica/)
