Looks like Strapping Groom ran his normal race but Palace didn't kick it in.

IMO Abra was more or less ridden as an independent entry trying to take advantage of the lack of speed and not as an entry mate. Without much speed, Strapping Groom had a tactical advantage over Palace. But SG ran so well, I'm not how much it would have mattered even if Abra was used harder early.
