For a fact we have had nights where nothing but longshots win and I get caustic email telling me that SHRP doesn't want the players to have a chance to we "rig" the races so that no favorites WIN. No matter the track, the nature of pari-mutuel wagering says that there are going to be nights when a preponderence of favorites win and others when nary a favorite gets its picture taken. Guess the only thing to do is find another track where only longshots are winning. But, when all the other longshot players decide to play that track too - those longshots are going to wind up getting bet down to 5-1 or so.

Purple, do you, by any chance, have a comparison of the avg winning price this year versus last year's meet?

I'm our department's rep at marketing meeting this Tuesday so I'll see if I can find the right number cruncher to give me that answer. (I kinda hope it's Pam in accounting - she also crosses over and works mutuels so maybe she has the figs - )

I haven't found any problem this meet in finding generous mutuels. This past Friday night 5 of the 10 races produced a $14.80 mutuel or more :D !!!

just throwing this out there ok? last 5 cards before tonights card:

all races other than arabians

18 post time favorites won

18 double digit winners :
17.00
13.80
19.60
26.40
47.40
12.20
22.40
11.20
11.20
10.20
11.60
18.60
12.80
16.80
15.80
18.40
14.80
16.40

10 "others" won:
6.00
9.00
6.80
5.80
7.80
8.60
8.20
8.20
9.40
9.60
8.40

46 races total 21 winners paying less than 7.00
25 winners paying 7.00 and up
with 18 double digit winners

i like seeing this pattern of as many double digit winners as post time favs. i have not handicapped said races so i am not trying to say anything other then it seems like there are more than a fair share of opportunities here. maybe just a string of the favs running together for a few nights.

He was Fan Education at Lone Star until about two years ago. I inquired about that position when I heard he was "retiring", but I guess my Louisiana brogue with a Texas twang accent didn't sound enough like Australian or South African for Corey and company. They didn't even return my phone calls.

I have not checked charts, but workouts the past week were very slow 50.1 to 50.4 median. That means closers and class should have prevailed, maybe some droppers. Cheap speed should not be winning, but the slower the track the slower the horse that has a shot!

I would actually like to see the average pick 3 payouts this year versus last.

I just cannot remember ever seeing so many <$100 pick 3's at Sam as I did this year.

I think you should be looking at median payouts, not averages. The big payoffs always distort the averages.

Bill Yeah, and Pam sent me to Steve and Chris (male version) and they, of course, told me that the only data they keep is "total pool size". We have the charts upstairs, but going through those charts and tallying that information is not something even my best Louisiana/Texas drawl can get someone to do.

I can do it, but I haven't been paying much attention to exotics in my database and I'm not really sure if all my payouts are of the same basis ($1 v. $2). I'll check and see what I can determine.

I've been to some of Badone's seminars and felt he conveyed absolutely nothing. Not just nothing positive, absolutely nothing.

I agree, Chuck Badone flat out said you should only bet a few dollars here and there, expect to lose, and if you do win, think of it as a bonus. That's not what I want to hear. He said you can't expect to make a living at the track. Why would someone like that be giving betting advice? I want to hear from someone who knows you CAN make money at the track.

I went to many of those Badone seminars just simply because he would be there when I walked in.

At the park, just before each race he would appear on the jumbotron screen with his picks for the upcoming race. When he gave his picks we would just look at each other and smile because when he picked someone to win, we knew that was a horse to bet against.

Get to the short line tomorrow,

Bob

This is for Ranch West....
My name is Brenda (Badone)D'Amico and my father is Chuck Badone. You had asked someone, if they new a man named Chuck Badone. Well I'm his daughter and I thought maybe I could answer your question, if you had one. By the way, my father passed away three weeks ago of cancer at age 67. I just happened to have stumbled across your post and thought I'd respond. Is there anything I can answer for you? You are right, he was connected with Lone Star Park, right up until he died, he worked for them. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance.

I'm not the one who asked about your father. I knew Chuck, though not personally. Please accept my condolences. I was present at the moment of silence honoring your father at Lone Star recently.
