Oh boy. Can you imagine if this guy was a tea-partying tea-bagger? Oh how we wouldn't be hearing the end of it on TV from the left-wing pundits.

Oh my, I can only imagine how hcap and mostpost and all the remaining left-leaners on here would be having a field day. If only...

There might even have been a national call to round up all teabaggers and put them into reeducation camps.

But, alas and alack, he was a leftist who had a penchant for weaponry. Oh well...there goes the stereotype of gun-toting maniacs as only being tea-party militiamen...

Read and weep:

This is a particularly illuminating portion of the above piece:

The Los Angeles Times quotes friends who described Pierson as an advocate for gun rights. In its lengthy report, The Los Angeles Times does not, however, include the information about the Facebook posts wherein Pierson describes himself as Keynesian or mocks Republicans as wanting people to die.

For an American mainstream media always eager to exploit tragedy for political gain, yesterday's horrific shooting will not give them much to work with. The gunman's politics have little in common with the Tea Party, and the state where the shooting took place, Colorado, passed almost all of the media's gun control wish-list about six months ago.

More bad news for the media came in the gunman's weapon of choice: a shotgun, which is also Vice President Joe Biden's weapon of choice.

As we have seen time and again, the length of the media's fascination with this kind of tragedy is directly connected to how much the media are able to exploit the event for political gain. As of right now, because there is nothing to mine for political gain, it looks as though the media will have forgotten all about this shooting by Tuesday or Wednesday.

The Washington Post: Robinson said at a news conference that the teen [age 18] bought the pump-action shotgun legally Dec. 6 at a local store. Anyone older than 18 is allowed to buy a shotgun in Colorado; only those over 21 can legally buy a handgun.

Weapon of choice? Really?

sad part is, it's clear that people on different sides of the political spectrum truly do root for the shooter in these tragedies to be from the other side of the aisle so to speak. It's just disgusting.

Some of you feel socialism is so great, if this dipshit had a job that had opportunity to grow it would never had happened. So you want to see hell on earth, you forget how mean young people can get.

I didn't say that's what YOU were doing did I?

However I distinctly remember reading and even talking to some friends on right who were literally overjoyed and couldn't contain their contentment when Jared Laughner's youtube page said one of his favorite books was the communist manifesto. Also when the boston bombing suspects were muslim I read plenty of things online that sure seemed like celebrating the fact that they were muslims.

Socially frustrated high school kid.

Have to find a way to get more of these kids involved with more activities, and social groups.

We have the era of social media, and we have the socially inept outcasts (as in any era).

Call it "social welfare" ;) ;)

That's a good point. Look at how many "nerds" from high school are getting the babes today, because they hit the books and got a useful degree or started a small business.

Bullshit. Keep telling them Everybody is special. Sometimes they catch on and realize they are just another number and they have to compete. It devastates them.

There were social outcasts in the 60's and 70's and they even took guns to school for gym class. But they didn't shoot up schools or go on revenge missions against a teacher like this kid did.

Something changed in the early 80's or shortly thereafter. Self esteem is a dangerous weapon.

She died? No, she is still alive and in critical condition. Latest article I read offered no prognosis. Considering where she was shot, it doesn't seem to be headed towards a positive conclusion.

She is still alive as far as I can determine. The hospital list her in critical but stable condition. She was certainly alive when lamboguy made his post. I would remind him that you can be a victim without being a fatality.

ETA: Somehow I missed PA's post above. Just consider this a later update.
Let's pray this turns out like Gabby Giffords-or better.

Of course not.

But, it is amazing the way society tends to subliminally delineate that very message when one of these despicable, deranged tragedies occurs, Mike.

Seen it many times here. One person gets a 5 star profile, the other is missed in Media coverage.

This is a particularly illuminating portion of the above piece:The right wing gun pray it is not of theirs. The Moslems pray it isn't one theirs. The left wing doesn't care. Because no matter who it is, it makes the case for more gun control. I Know the right doesn't understand that. If it is right wing nut, it just icing on the cake. Anybody else, it is just more food for tough laws. The left thinks "If a left winger can't be trusted with a gun, who can."

The truth of it is.....how does it matter? It just makes my case, a whack job is a whack job. Only a bunch of morons would put politics on this. Thats the true thing wrong with the left and right. Everything comes down to some retarded political statement. Thinking in terms of "right" from "wrong" has exited the brain of most fools. It doesn't matter that these "rejects" get guns and shoot innocent kids down....."which way do his politics lean?" Thats how people think now....its hilarious or sad .....i don't know which. But it proves my hypothesis that people don't even think about the event or the concequences....they just tune into their favorite "News" channel to be told what they think of it...in political terms. Lets get this straight, i have guns, i was marksman in the navy. But why do these whack jobs have such an easy time getting them? Forget about left and right for two seconds and any sane, half a brain person with any sense at all is going to realize that we got way too many fools with guns that have no business owning them. This is another deal where the left and right ruin it for the "normal". Instead of compromising and doing something about a situation that any "half educated" person can see is a problem...one side will try to take everyones guns away....the other side will fight to do nothing at all. Just like everything else around here....the health care deal, the immigration deal...i can go on and on...any issue. One side wants to save us from ourselves...the other wants to do nothing...so we get shit.......Lets give everyone a gun...it can be like the OK corral in 2013.....we'll just clean up the bodies and blame it on politics...:)

Wow! Goren, revealing post

From Wiki. Just a few facts to sweeten the discussion. I'll assume they are somewhat accurate. Some of it is crap. Criminals don't care about laws

In 2009, according to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, 66.9% of all homicides in the United States were perpetrated using a firearm.[5] Two-thirds of all gun-related deaths in the United States are suicides. In 2010, there were 19,392 firearm-related suicide deaths, and 11,078 firearm-related homicide deaths in the United States.[6]

Policies at the federal, state, and local levels have attempted to address gun violence through a variety of methods, including restricting firearms purchases by youths and other "at-risk" populations, setting waiting periods for firearm purchases, establishing gun "buy-back" programs, law enforcement and policing strategies, stiff sentencing of gun law violators, education programs for parents and children, and community-outreach programs. However, federal legislation intended to support gun owners rights may have the effect of limiting intentional interference of weapon sales to criminals domestically and insurgents abroad. A widely held apprehension to a national gun registry has led to the prohibition of ATF and local law enforcement from access to digital databases for the purpose of identification of the place of sale for weapons recovered at crime scenes.[7][8][9]

Gun policies are influenced by interpretations of the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution, an amendment which has been the subject of disagreement over the years. It was not until 2008 that the Supreme Court first attempted to clarify the meaning of this amendment in District of Columbia v. Heller, in which it invalidated a firearm ban in Washington, D.C., stating that the second amendment protects an individual's right to possess a firearm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home and within federal enclaves. In June 28, 2010 the Supreme Court ruled in the case of McDonald v. Chicago that this protection extends to the states as well.[10]
The Congressional Research Service in 2009 estimated there were 310 million firearms in the United States, not including weapons owned by the military. 114 million of these were handguns, 110 million were rifles, and 86 million were shotguns.[11] In that same year, the Census bureau stated the population of people in the United States at 305,529,237.[12]

Thank you for your service to our country. We might not agree on the why's, but I did take the time to read your post and try to understand where your coming from. We as a nation are under attack on many fronts is my take, so if you take the time to read my take you might understand why compromising may be just more poison.

I personally am not overly religious, but feel Judeo-Christian beliefs are under attack not only inside this country but all over the world. And would go so far as to say that there is a war against people who have faith. Similarly I feel the family unit is being undermined big time in this country. We should list a few more worthy subjects before we get to guns. It is all about change, they can not bring it about without complete control. Your guns are as good as melted iron sold to China if we do not restore some core things that originally made this country great. Band-aid approaches will buy your guns any time from the gun grabbing degenerate who only thinks, end run.

Strange that there were three shootings in a close area - Columbine, the theater, and this one.Nothing strange at all. within 30 blocks of where I live, in last 18 months there 3 shootings, 5 people dead(none domestic). 2 more from a baseball bat as part of some sort gang initiation. It is a crazy world out there even in a hick town like Lincoln, Ne.
