I am starting a study of the pick 5 as a bet and ran across this at Haw
for 11-23-2013
$2.00 pick5 3-8-1-6-6(4 correct) 62.20 0
$2.00 pick5 3-8-1-6-6(5 correct) 24,103.60 9343

how can it pay 24,103.60 if the pool is 9343????????????????

I thought Haw has a 50 cent pick 5 so payoff actually was 24,103.60
divided by 4 = 6,025.59 am I right ? that leaves 3317.41 left in pool
for takeout and consolations...what percentage is taken out for consol?
as you can see I am new to this bet want to learn it -- I have back data
for all tracks some report 50 cent some don't......

I'll give it a shot.

The pool is $9343.

The takeout on the wager is 14%.

That's $1308 off the top, remainding a pool to be distributed of $8035.

Here's the rule for calculating a major/minor pool:

Section 308.20 Pool Calculations

The organization licensee may select one of the following methods for conducting its Pick (n) pool. As used in this Part, "Major pool" is defined as 75% of the daily net pool, and "Minor pool" is defined as 25% of the daily net pool. Any deviation from the major/minor pool percentage division must be approved by the State Director of Mutuels.

In other words, the 5 of 5 pay will be 75% of the pool to be distributed, in this case, $8035.

75% of $8035 is $6026.25, or without the round numbers, presumably about the $6025.59 that you computed in your math up above.

Guess I should add in case it was part of the question that it appears that there was one winning .50 cent 5 of 5 ticket, and 32 or 33 winning .50 cent 4 of 5 consolation tickets.

You confirmed what I had concluded....why do they still report payoffs as $2.00
wager instead of 50 cents...it makes the pools seem higher than they really are..there were no $2 tickets....I will call Hawthorne they will probably ignore
me...LOL
