Thanks. They added some different conditions and now they have a full card and a lot of 10 horse fields.

Do you enter this grandstand from Patterson Plank Road?

Pandy are you going to be at the BigM for preview night tonight?? Will look forward to seeing your take on the new Meadowlands. Including the new "pink" dining room and the new food items being offered. Looking forward to visiting the new grandstand. However as Yogi Berra once reportedly said "Nobody goes there any more because it's to crowded". I do expect a large crowd opening night so maybe will visit a week or two later.

I'm going to wait a week or two. There's bound to be some opening night problems this week. Looking forward to seeing it. I remember the first time I walked into the Meadowlands in 1976, it was awesome.

I hear that Pandy. I remember when they opened the "new" Garden state Park. It was a huge mob that showed up. They ran out of everything. Programs, food, the works. They got big crowds for about two weeks before things settled down. The BigM is giving away free dinners to "select" people for preview night tonight. There web site has a number to call if you are interested. They are limiting the crowd to 250 for the preview. Plus having some Q races to watch from 5 to 9.

mrroy---Did you ever go to any of the seminars that GSP held at the Cherry Hill Inn?? This is where I met and had a nice chat with John Campbell. What an impressivve man he is, a real credit to harness racing. Also at the seminar I told one of the GSP staff I was a regular and got a free parking pass and season pass for admission. The free seminar was well worth the time spent.

Thanks. The reason I asked is that only one NJ transit bus line, #164, actually goes into the Meadowlands. However, a few more lines makes stops on Paterson Plank Road, making it easier to get to the track, if you could enter from there.

As an aside, did the facility look as though they were anticipating getting slots?

In other words, was there a large, empty space where slot machines could be installed?

Good old GSP. I spent a lot of cold, quiet nights there in the late 90s. They would handle 1.5M or so on a card, and only about 35K of it was on track. A lot of empty orange seats, as Larry Ledderman would call out a stretch duel "Twenty Six thousand strong now up on their feet!" I miss that place.

As for the Meadowlands, I was wondering if they would use the space now occupied by the old grandstand for a slots area. The drawback would be that it would be difficult to go back and forth between the slots area and the new grandstand.

I think I read that the old grandstand is being taken down next year.

Very interesting article.

I was told that the old grandstand will be used for some Super Bowl events and then demolished.

I would believe this. If the Meadowlands eventually get slots, they"ll want them in a new facility.

BadCo--Derick Giwner of the drf.com harness has provided a video "sneak preview" of the new Meadowlands. See what you think. It looks to me there is plenty of open space.

Looks nice. There is a lot of open space on the first floor where machines could be placed.

That said, it seems more horse friendly than the typical Racino which tends to have A Great Wall between the Slots and the track and Simo centers.

Since my geographic location did not allow me to attend opening night at the Meadowlands with the new grandstand, tell me how it was. How is the feel of the new grandstand and more importantly how did the fans feel about it? I follow the articles, forums, blogs and anything else about the Meadowlands so I am curious about the recent changes. To me, it seems like quite a few renovations lately have included the addition of casinos so it wouldn’t be a surprise to me if Meadowlands follows suit in an effort to bring in more and more money and people too.
