I'm sitting here on a Tuesday night watching Mountaineer, and the following trivia question came to mind. What was the track designation for Mountaineer before Mnr?

Waterford Park was Wat, I'm pretty sure. But I don't know if that's what TC is going for here; I get the feeling there was something else in between.

Exactly what I was thinking!

There's an Australian track (Manangatang) that is designated as Mtn by DRF. Can't believe that Manangatang would trump Mountaineer to get the Mtn code though.

Possibly changed when Equibase and DRF started to share data?

I might be the only person on the planet to have spent considerable time at both tracks. Huge blowies at Manangatang.

Huge blowies at Manangatang.
Sounds like quite the party town.  :jump: :jump:

Or maybe it doesn't translate well from Australian to English.

We call blowflies "blowies" in Australia. Manangatang is probably the blowie capital of the world.

Several folks have the right idea. The change was made shortly after the introduction of the Mtn code because of possible confusion of PPs between the following two tracks:

And they are..............Mtn and Mth.

Thanks for participating everyone.

Hmmm....

We have:

HOO, HOU, HOL (or we did)
BEL, BEU
FP, FPX
DED, DEL
EVD, EMD
FE, FER
FNO, FON
LA, LAD
PID, PIM, PM
PLN, PNL (until of course Pinnacle closed)
PRM, PRX
SA, SAC, SAR
SR, SRP
SUF, SUN
TP, TUP

But somehow MTR and MTH were too close?

No, it was Mtn and Mth that were too close. I can see the problem, can't you?

No, not really. Doesn't look any more similar than others I see. I guess an n and an h were too close. Never really had much trouble distinguishing them myself.

I'm getting on in years, and my near vision is not what it used to be. Believe me, those two lower case letters are rough on visually-impaired people.

Anyway, I'm still calling Parx Philadelphia; just hate that term Parx. Thank God Betfair Hollywood is closing; hated that, too.
