Right. The height of the mound was lowered from 15 to 10 inches after the 1968 season.

Also lowered because only a few batters were able to bat over .300. The title I believe in one league was with only a .301 average. Yaz may have won triple crown that year, would have to look it up.

Rose batted .335 that year

And give you 300+ innings and 20 complete games. He'd be worth a fortune though the game's changed a lot since he left.

You're right about Rose in the National League. Yas led in the American with .301.
Just a side-note regarding Gibson. Much of his success can be attributed to his willingness to move batters off the plate with his heat. He kept all but the best hitters constantly on their toes and seldom digging in against him.

Yaz won the Triple Crown in 1967 (when the Red Sox won the pennant) with a .326 average, along with 44 home runs and 121 runs batted in. He also won the league batting title in 1968 with that .301 average (the next highest qualifying player hit .290), but his 23 home runs and 74 RBI's were not the best in the league. Frank Howard had 44 home runs, and Ken Harrelson had 109 RBI's.

How can you have an ERA of 1.12 and still lose nine games ?

Unearned runs that cost his team games and went as losses and/or several low scoring games he lost because his team failed to score runs, or few runs. 1-0 games or 2-1 games for example.

He would be the highest paid player in the league at a 30 million base and incentives out of the ass..... Until 2017 when Trout becomes unrestricted... I cant wait to see what kind of deal Trout gets.

Today, Bob Gibson would walk into the Bud Beer compound and begin negotiations with A. Busch II by saying:

"Hello, partner ... "
