i don't know about Delta Downs, but i was at Santa Anita this past Sunday and i sat in the Eddie Logan room. it was the best place i have ever sat at in any racetrack in North America. the room was outside along the clubhouse turn, they had real comfortable couches and chairs, a fully stocked bar and a good spread. they also had a shoeshine booth there because the room was named after a shoeshine guy.

you can't beat the backdrop of the track either with the mountains facing you, and the beauty of the place.

Was there many years ago. Small track as you probably already know. The people working there were some of the nicest I've ever met. Made for a nice day.

I was there on a sunday for the quarterhorse meet a couple of years back. pretty nice place ,it includes a casinio. at times an alligator crawls onto the track and the outriders shoo it back into the pond. Don Stevens is the track announcer ,he is an excellant quarterhorse handicapper, probably is on throughbreds too . he seems to be an extremely nice fellow. the track is not far from I 10 but kinda out by itself. I didn't go up stairs but the bottom floor had plenty of places to eat and simalcast rooms. I enjoy it but then again i've never been at a horsetrack I didn't like!

If you going for the Delta Jackpot it will be jammed packed. Any other day you can sit or stand wherever you want. I would go to the 2nd floor and sit in the clubhouse or the 2nd floor grandstand.

I went there a few years ago, which was just a couple of years after the racino started.

I found it to be a nice enjoyable experience, with little problem in finding seats wherever you want them. I also recall the stretch being somewhat angled towards to grandstand rather than the usual parallel, which made for a different but nice viewing experience. Handicapping is always a challenge, but fuller field sizes are the norm.

Delta Downs is probably the home of the biggest baked potato I have ever seen. One of the concession stands specialized in baked potatoes topped with the usual items, along with pulled pork. The potato itself was something like 9-10 inches long, and when loaded up, it easily made for a meal. Yum!!!

Someday I'll go back again to DeD. They run during a time when it makes it nice to escape the colder temperatures found up North.

I'm usually at Delta a couple of nights a week to race. They have a nice restaurant upstairs called "The Lookout". A pretty good buffet also on the second floor which has little box seats. There are no grandstand seats, just a few small bleachers that run the length of the stretch. As was noted in an earlier post, Jackpot day will be jammed packed. Jackpot day is the 23rd so if you are planning on being there i would contact them at 888-589-7223 for seat availability...

Yea I meant to say the box seats not the grandstand seats just couldn't think of the right word. I think each box seat has a TV monitor.

Delta is one of the many racinos where the racing side of the property is old and tired looking, while the casino side is a lot more fresh. The casino is easily accessible from the racetrack grandstand (free soft drinks in the casino). Sometimes you will hear Don refer to the OTB - its a glass enclosed room with tables, chairs, and individual TVs for simulcast wagering (its free). The paddock that you see on TV is bordered by several rows of benches, so you can look in on the goings on there, and Don's preview is broadcast on speakers in that seating area. When you are on the track apron, you will get an optical illusion that the horses are running downhill as they come down the stretch. Its a 6 furlong track, so you can get a decent view of the race without binocs.

Don't know if you live in the area - if you are flying in, its hard to get there. Its about 2 hours from Houston. There is not a whole lot on the drive from Houston to Vinton, but the cars in the lot are predominantly from TX.

Its far from the best, and far from the worst track you will ever see.

Good luck.
