Because it's two days away .

Way too close to the Breeders Cup . Besides , it's on a Tuesday , they
close up everything for it .

Haven't been able to follow the runners over there this year so I'm
totally in the dark .

Must be nice to worry about Tuesday wagering activities....I'm jealous!!

Thank You

I see they have their own drama

Lloyd Williams, the dominant owner with six horses in the Melbourne Cup, has called out rival English trainer Ed Dunlop for his comments suggesting that Williams could "boss" the race with a quarter of the field

For a price, I do like Foreteller (25-1 on the Aussie fixed prices currently), to go with two horses that we've seen on this side of the pond before, Dandino (winner of the Arlington St Leger this year and a very good 2nd in the Caufield Cup) and Sea Moon (ran in the BC a couple years ago)

I'm a Canadian racing fan and handicapper, er...punter living Down Under for the year. Pretty excited about tomorrow's Melbourne Cup.

I'm a teacher and the plan is to gather all the students and staff in the gym, er...hall to watch the race at 3:00 pm AEDT. Seems a far cry from North America where I'd be raked over the coals for bringing up anything to do with horse racing and gambling in my classroom.

I've briefly handicapped the race and I prefer the Euros to the home bred horses. I think the best value is :19: - Simenon. He's an Irish bred who has a record of 2-1-1 at the 3200 m (Ouch!) distance and is in good form. His odds at the moment are 18/1 to win.

In descending, order I'm also picking the :6: - Fiorente (IRE), the :4: - Sea Moon (GB), and the :10: - Fawkner (AUS).

Even Dave Schwartz might think that 4 picks is a bit indulgent but please forgive me as it's a 24 horse field while I write this. I'm anticipating a scratch or two, mind you.

Gotta run and put the finishing touches on my fascinator for tomorrow...

It is race #7A and likely after 8 p.m. pacific time.
It is sight to see. I am capping it now and I am taking long shot Brown Panther and couple others.

This is truly one of the best websites for Australian and really any racing. The features the Ausssies get for free is amazing. Take some time to play with features on the left and create your own custom speed maps and factor assesments with sliders and easy navigation. You'll also find a almost real time look at the totes at many major bookmakers. I wish TS or Express would do something like this. Only downfall is no way to import CSV files.

I'll be watching for sure - may even make a small wager.
Always a spectacle, and one of the world's top races.

I've actually seen one of the entrants in the flesh.
Irish invader Simenon ran at Punchestown in Feb 2012 - I was there with my wife and son. He is a serious stayer who will run all day - but I'm not convinced that he can sustain the fast pace in this race. You can't be too far off the lead in the final 4-6 furlongs, and they go very quick for a turf marathon. Simenon may surprise, and trainer Willie Mullins is as sharp as they come. I can't recall him ever shipping to Australia before. Wishing them luck!

I do play the PK4 at Aus B regularly when there are carryovers.
It's had a positive ROI for me for several years running, and same again in 2013.

Racing Down Under is fine by me.....

fyi, Dave is not bashful about betting moredepending onvalue. I will definitelyconsider your suggestions (19) if price is right. Others do notexcite me as much. Fiorente's defeat by SHamus AWard, a maiden inhis last was not inspiring to me. These areclassy horses and could show up for the 6 million dollar prize. best of luck to all.

Small world. :) I saw Simenon win at Royal Ascot (the Ascot Stakes - an ungraded handicap) in June 2012. The race distance was 2.5 miles.

I'm definitely taking a shot on this gelding tonight. Not because I have a clue about most of the field. Oh no. This is all about having an interest and some fun Down Under!

Willie Mullins is as shrewd as they come - he ships to win, and often does.
No Irish trainer has saddled as many jump winners when shipping to the UK in recent years,
and his charges are laden with stamina and ability.

Simenon has been bet down to around 10-1 with the UK books today.
In Australia, he is around 15-1. If I can get odds close to 15-1 near post time, I will stick a little win and place on him, just for kicks!

TwinSpires is offering a $20K guarantee on a late PK4 tonight at Flemington, plus a 20% bonus on winning tickets. Honestly, that's like offering a bonus on the Lotto - that PK4 is extremely difficult.

I love the late night racing with full fields but I cannot apply even one simple handicapping angle with these pp's. I feel like it's 1986 and I'm trying to pick a horse with the daily program. Whew....

By the way, a bonus X $0 = $0

$42.00 to place  I think that was US pools. In australia he seems to have paid less?

http://www.theroar.com.au/2013/11/05/melbourne-cup-2013-red-cadeaux-runs-second-again/

Red Cadeaux jumped as a $61.00 chance and was not fancied in any betting markets despite his fantastic record at Flemington. Ultimately, he paid $11 for the place.

That should mean 29-1 on win approx were post time odds there. On Xpressbet I saw 51-1 for Red Cadeux and 5-1 on the winner Fiorente

Nice hit with the exacta, Robert.

While I'm living in the ACT and Melbourne Cup Day isn't a holiday like it is in Victoria, a mate from school sprung me early so I could watch the race at the local sports bar.

It was quite a scene. The packed room hooted and hollered during the loooooong race but was hushed for the stretch run as we were all trying to figure out which horses were actually charging for home! I haven't seen a race with a 24 horse field before so it was remarkable to see them strung out 8-10 wide as they came around the final turn!

Funny how these things work out. The jockey and trainer of the winner were involved in the 2 most controversial incidents of the Australian turf in the last 12 months

Jockey Damien Oliver was lucky to be riding in the race. Should have been suspended for longer than the 9 or 10 months he got for betting $10000 on the other fave in a race he was riding in. The suspension was crafted so that he would not miss the spring carnival

Then trainer Gai Waterhouse also got off light in the More Joyous affair of 6 months or so ago

These 2 have rarely teamed up in the past

21 Araldo - didn't look bad in the Caufield Cup.

22 Lucia Valentino is another solid local horse, but you get much less price.

1- Admire Rakti - Public favorite. I'm not crazy about this horse.
3- Fawkner - Another Public favorite that I don't like, but feel i should include.
5- Protectionist - My pick to win.
10 - Gatewood - Huge Price on a horse who may turn out to be as good as many contenders.
20 - Opinion - 50-1 'sleeper'
22 -Luchia Valentina - closer who really needs the flow of the race late, not sure she gets that here, but can't exclude.
24 - Signoff - Public favorite that I don't know very well.

Bet? = box all 7 =$42 :D
$2plc on :5::10::20:
$2win on :5:
total = $46

also - tossing Araldo - bad post.

Alpha and Omega
German horse wins and Japanese horse finishes last.

Ryan Moore, what can you say, he has to be considered one of the all time greats at this point. He is in an purple patch in his career right now.

Unfortunate and tragic , Admire Rakti collapsed and died when he returned to his stall . I feel for his connections . RIP !

Araldi wasn't injured in the race but reportedly kicked a fence shortly
after and fractured his cannon Hoping he makes it . The sad part of the
game . :(

What's the purse for that race? 2 miles? Backstretch went on forever.

Congratulations , Robert. I did not take 5 due to short odds. But I decided to try other Import #4 at 21-1 for Place. Among a couple of others (Godolpin etc). Partly due to Pace Advantage article on how I crushed BC. I give him the credit for it.
