Wow…. down in Phoenix for business last week & decided to pay Turf Paradise a visit for the first time in over 20 years after practically living there in the early 80’s. I know TUP was never a Del Mar/Toga, but it was fairly popular on the weekends back in the 70/80s, but this place was a ghost town on Saturday. Looks like it has been allowed to decay with almost no maintenance in decades… jerry-rigged electrical and cooling, broken down seating, shuttered food stalls & almost no betting terminals. Racing wasn’t much better – couple 4 horse races & several breakdowns. I can’t believe it won’t be long before it replaced with a subdivision. :(
it wasn’t all bad! Sitting in the grandstand, drinking beer & watching racing on a nice 80 degree day… lot worse things I could be doing.
