What is the best Dick Mitchell book? I would welcome any thoughts before I blow $40 on a used book.

Some good stuff in Commonsense Handicapping" . And there certainly is a place in my heart for one of the first "serious" handipping tomes that I read, "Winning Thoroughbred Strategies".

I'm sure you wouldn't have to pay $40 for either of these used. Try Ebay, or perhaps someone here has a copy for sale.

Funny thing about the book market... 18 months ago Mitchell books were $200+. Now they are around $30.

On ebay, you can generally expect to pay:

Commonsense Handicapping $20 - $40
Commonsense Betting $40 - $50
Winning Throughbred Strategies $15 - $25
Throughbred Handicapping as an Investment $60+

From a online bookseller (non-auction) expect to pay a little to a lot more...

In reply to the question, headhawg says it all. Winning Thoroughbred Strategies turned me into a winning player. Since I am mentioned in Chapter 11 of Commonsense Handicapping, modesty keeps me for expanding on that. <g>
