My wife and I are planning a trip for our anniversary in September. She wanted to go to an island, but being hurricane season, we will pass. We were also considering Italy or Ireland, but are not sure at this point.. I really don’t know where is safe to go at this point..

It’s really sad that you have to worry about whether a destination is safe or not when planning a vacation. But I guess it’s reality and it’s something we have to deal with..

The southern Carribean is safer than Disney World as far as hurricanes go. They're out of "hurricane alley". The Grenadines and the Islands off of SA (Aruba etc.) are great.

What is wrong with the United States?

There are some great places to visit in this country. I don't think you have seen everything in the U.S. have you?

Fairplex- L.A. county fair Sep 10-26! Then you can take her to visit the farms at San Lius Rey with the horse swimming pool, and go to Harris Farms for the restaurant and motel, and arrange a tour of the farm! All 3 destinations are online and if you are into country music Buck Owens performs at Bakersfield Thursday through Saturday! Have you driven Highway 1 north of L.A. at all?

Beautiful Finger Lakes opens next month and the gamming is already going strong. Farmington is the hot spot of northern Ontario county these days!

You didn't say you wanted a horse racing connection. If that is the case, I like the idea Ken came up with. Have you ever driven up the Pacific Coast Highway? Start in Santa Monica and give yourself about 3 days.........great time and you can play the horses too........

Yes, but my wife did not like California when we were there. We've been to San Fran and to San Diego..

Good Choice SQ. I know you like Harness Racing, and you can have a field day in Ontario. Mohawk, Flamboro, Kawartha , Georgian, and Elmira are all within reach from the BIG TO !!!

Hey SQ,

If you go to TO, think about live racing at Georgian Downs. The place is brand new , spanking clean. The buffet is pretty damn good, and you can watch the live racing right from your table. There is also a TV on your table to catch the simulcasting action from all over. There are also girls with wireless parimutuel ticket machines who come to your table, you don't have to get up to bet. A mobile ticket seller ! Georgian is not far from TO, I once made it from Georgian to North York in a half hour. From Downtown TO lets say 45 - 60 minutes depending on your style of driving. Its a cool place.

Reservations at Georgian. I recommend as far in advance as possible to avoid disapointment. The buffet and seating usually sells out in advance on busy nights.

Ever thought of trying British Columbia? Great skiing at world famous Whistler Ski Resort. Best salmon fishing in the world. Try gold panning in Barkerville. Famous Butchart Gardens and The Wax Museum in Victoria, Vancouver Island. And tons of other tourist attractions. You`ll never regret it.

Good luck wherever you choose,

Skanoochies.

I'm changing my vote to Toronto!! My uncle used to live there and played bass in the symphony; I heard there are a lot of nice things!

Toronto was nice and clean, which really surprised me. And the people up there were very nice.

The best part (at that time) was handing over $1000 US at Casino Niagara and them handing us $1560 Canadian back..

Conversely, the worst part was 'cashing out' as we left the country..
