R1: :2: GEORGIA showed good tactical speed in a fast pace maiden won by a filly that had been narrowly beaten by the colt that later won the Del Mar Futurity. She had a quiet debut, probably thinking in this race. She's sixter of one of the best fillies in Russia last year (winner of the Guineas, 2nd in the Oaks and third in the Russian Derby).

1st ($4.20)

R2: (4)OH DADDY OH should be the favorite after being bet down to even money in his debut, and today for me it's cold in the betting at 7/2 dropping to claimers. Better to look for another. Speedy :12: STEPPINGOOD arrives racefit from the bullring, where he blew both turns and managed a good second (should have won). Talamo great with frontrunners.

NP

impossible to make up an inch of ground, looks like the typical openning day speed bias

Won't be playing till later but will be going with the 1 Et Tu Walker in the 8th race. Been betting this horse since the turf debut, can go to the front or sit off the pace and close hard. Extra half furlong should be in the reach, only problem is no idea who Manuel Guttierez is and why Mario isn't riding for Doug O'neill but at 8-1 ml will be taking a shot

:1: in the third very interesting

R3: :1: CHICSDIGTHESHARK is the speed of the field, back on dirt (won 3 of 5) on the inside, with stamina to win at 7f and at a mile. Trainer huge from route to sprint (60%) and good in the second after a layoff (22%). Logical with decent odds.

NP

391-1 exacta!!!!

R4: last opportunity for :1: NAVARRE, who beat many winners in rich allowance races in France (nosed by Nutello, later third in a Saratoga grade 1) and is in Dough O'Neill red hot barn. :5: CUNEO is a lightly raced sibling of multiple graded stakes winner Gottcha Gold, ($800.000), by good turf sire Exchange Rate that has upside potential and goes for the exacta box.

NP

definitely Navarre is a sucker bet, never again

R5: :4: ONE WORLD won a MSWt coming from a four months layoff last fall over this course. On dirt showed more speed than on synthetics, and here is dropping to the minimum. I thing he's got a class edge over this field and the way he's training (47.3 > 59.4) should be prominently placed. My option in a pretty scary day for the bankrolls.

NP

if you don't get out of the gate quick you are dead, tough day

The Spaniard

R6: a green puzle. :11: D'OBSESSION, the course specialist, proven at this level, progressive and with the come back race (too short) under his belt. The best win/show option.

NP

HOTRADAMUS ($50) !!!

R7: both Baffert runners won up in front with confortable unchallenged leads. :9: NORTHERN IOWA ran a great race in a stakes in Fairplex run at a very fast pace for the course routes (22.4 > 45.4), maybe he shows more speed over Santa Anita dirt, and he's not meeting winners for the first time. Shaky...

:1: ET TU WALKER is passing a big class test, and also he's new over this tricky downhill turf course... this is the reason you'll get this high 22-1 payment...

good luck.... and very smart no action in this typical opening day... I need a damn winner to cover the hole....

Ended up playing Belmont a bit but was busy during Santa Anita or I would have been in a hole as well. The downhill turf is a tough course so hoping he can adjust to it

R8: :5: UNBRIDLE'S NOTE: debut winner, twice a winner coming from a layoff, twice stakes winner over course an distance. 105 last Beyer here after a layoff.

Haha well I guess I see why he was 15/1 and first on the downhill turf. Oh well, I'll try a win on the 7 in the last

are you sure? the :7: lacks early speed at all, even in a slow turf route (49.2 the second call) he was galloping dead last. With this speed bias the big drop has no effect with very slow horses...

The Spaniard

R9: :1: FLY HIGH is speedy when in the mood and now cuts back from a three turns long route (he went like a crazy horse) to a sprint for the red hot barn. The bullring race looks like a prep for this. :12: MARY ELLEN'S STORM has speed (22.0 > 44.3 in his comeback race in Del Mar) and last year was competitive here in MSWt.

win & win & exacta box & a prayer

Hoping that was just a try to see how he runs on turf and clearly failed. Throwing that race out and trying for a decent price

RESULT 10th:

NP & NP

the deep closers predominate to kill any buck left

the worst day of my year!!!
