Game 5 1976 ALCS Yankees vs. Royals.........Chris Chambliss walk off HR. A walk off where he had to run off. (from the mob) He snuck out later in a jacket with two cops to touch home and it had been stolen. The ump said it didn't matter under the circumstances. I was 14 and screaming in the living room.

Greyfox has the greatest Goal- Henderson, natch.
The Greatest Hockey Game ever played was the New Year's Eve exhibition match between the Montreal Canadians and the Soviet Red Army at the Forum. Again, at the height of the Cold War and the Habs( at the beginning of their 5 year NHL dominance) blitzed Red Army all night and badly outshot them, but the final was a 4-4 Tie.

I've seen Super Bowls, World Cups, and even the lousy Lions in the old Silverdome. When Hulk Hogan barely lifted Andre The Giant and slammed him. That place was never louder. Theatre? Sure. But it was a lot of fun and a great moment. Guess you had to be there.

Thats something i'll never forget, your friend has a piece of sports history. I think people forget the the Yankees stunk for much of that period. When i was a kid they were an "also ran" mostly every year. I tried to post the youtube video but i couldn't get it right. The team had to literally run for their lives to the clubhouse because of the mayhem. Yankee stadium went absolutely nuts, it was such a clutch hit.....trip to the World Series on the line.

Do you think that the Carter HR would have had more impact if the team was based in the states? Also, i think and someone can correct me if i'm wrong, but the Blue Jays essentially had that series wrapped up, Philly was "finished" and Mitch the wild thing williams arm was coming off at the seams, it was just a matter of time before Toronto won that series. Now, if the HR grabbed victory out of the jaws of defeat, it might have been more memorable. I think the Gibson HR was more memorable to sports fans and sports fans have seen that highlight 10X more than they've seen the Joe Carter walk off, you can even make the case that even though it was walk off series HR, there are a lot of HRs ahead of that one in baseball "lore". that are more memorable.

Quite frankly, you've hit the nail on the head. Certainly, pure jingoism that Carter's HR is not arguably the greatest ever and certainly why it isn't ranked ahead of Gibson, Maris, Ruth, Bonds and at least equal to Maz, nor replayed constantly in America.
I would say better than Maz, because Carter's was the ONLY HR that ended a WS, where the winning team was behind in B9. Crazy Mitch got the count to 2-2 on Joe and 2 pathetic, badly timed swings, before he hit the HR for all time.
Of course, I'm a Jays fan and was a Season Tix holder for 20 years and was sitting above 3rd Base when he hit it! So, a bit biased on easily the most memorable sports event I've ever witnessed personally. Beats the Bills Comeback game over the Oilers that I stayed for... ;)

For me, I remember the Carter HR more than the Gibson one because I only saw the Gibson HR on tape while I was watching the Carter HR as it happened.
The Bills' comeback led by Frank Reich is one of the more memorable NFL games I've seen. I was just about to turn the game off when it must've been 35-3, and decided to watch one more Buffalo possession, and then another, and then you could sense a tremendous momentum shift. Even when it was 35-17 you could sense panic on the part of Houston, who could not run the ball and burn any clock.

I had a blind date on the day of that game. I left my house to pick up the girl and when i got to her house, the comeback was under way. I remember going up to her door and her family was watching the game....i think i might have politely asked "can i watch the end". :D

Jim Vavano's North Carolina Wolfpack basketball program winning the final game of the NCAA tournament against the Phi Slamma Jama of the Houston Cougars powerhouse team. he came back every game in that years playoffs and won the whole thing. when they asked him after the game how he came back so many times, he answered that he wanted to be behind because his team got so used to it, they played better.
Jim turned out to be a very inspiring man. i can never forget him till the day i die. he knew he didn't have long to go and he wouldn't quit, he kept on fighting until god finally stopped him.

Bill Buckner was my favorite player growing up. I watched the Cubs almost every day back then and for several years he was the only thing the team had going for it. He'd be batting 300 and the next best guy was somewhere around 240 it seemed. Oddly enough, the Cubs traded him off in the 1984 season, the first time they made the playoffs since 1945. They won the first 2 games of the series versus the Padres and then proceeded to lose the next 3. In the final game, Bill's replacement at first base, Leon Durham had a ball go through his legs, helping the Padres come back in the final game to advance to the World Series. Of course few would remember Buckner's gaff in 1986 is the Red Sox had bothered to win game 7.....
My most memorable play came that year as well. Cubs were driving to the division title and Lee Smith came in to save a game against the Expos. He actually had managed to get one out before loading the bases. Up came Pete Rose, his one season with the team. He hits a line drive straight at Smith, who could only try to duck out of the way. The ball hit Smith square in the back, went up in the air and right to Dave Owen (no idea where Larry Bowa was that day) who caught it and threw to second for the double play. Harry Caray, in his partying heydey, started screaming "God is a Cubs fan!" as they won the game.

And borg McEnroe I never even heard of that's match :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: and I follow tennis!!!!
The duke Kentucky moment is locked in immortal time......at worst case that gets a new brand new 30 min show every year in march......could be a top 5 sports moment of all time
If Cal pissed on Derek he would probably hit one of Jeet's WS trophies instead. ;)

Kellen Winslow and the Chargers winning a grueling OT game in Miami in 1982;
and then going to the Freezer Bowl against my short-sleeved Bengals the next week (I was there at that one: truly memorable);
and then there's the original Freezer Bowl with Bart Starr's sneak behind Jerry Kramer vs. Cowboys.

Will there be another season of Curb?
Curb is one of my favorite all time shows, someone said to me recently "looks like Curb is done". But, i guess you never know, Larry David seems to still have the "bug" he was just in a movie and whatnut, maybe he's taking a break and will come back with some fresh material next year? One can hope.

Of course few would remember Buckner's gaff in 1986 is the Red Sox had bothered to win game 7.....
And most forget, Red Sox were one strike away from being eliminated against Angels. Trailing 3 games to 1 and losing 5-2 in top 9th Dave Henderson hit a Donnie Moore fork ball to give Sox 6-5 lead. They would ultimately win in extra innings and meet the Mets in World Series.
Moore and Buckner were always remembered for their teams losses. Moore was always booed by Angels fans afterwards. Unfortunately for him, he subsequently took his own life after shooting his wife

Yes, I was a great NASCAR fan, but when I saw that race and what ultimately happened, it seems after that, it was never really the same for me any longer....He was the hardest charger ever, in my book....(and that's from a list of other very hard-chargers)
I miss the "Intimidator" style of racing.....Too slick for me nowadays....Or perhaps I have just run out of he-man heroes like from the days of when racing was a whole nuther sport to me......:(

Is it true that if they kicked a field goal; they would not have beaten the spread so they went for the touchdown?.......heard that somewhere.

I couldn't have said it any better........ :ThmbUp: When Dale hit the wall, everything changed. Like a lot of others. It was a tough week.
I still follow it, via the web. Watch a few races at tracks I like. But it's never going to be the same.......never. They broke the mold. When Mark Martin is done, an era has truly passed. Used to go to about 2 races a year. All over the country. I went to Charlotte when I lived in N Carolina a few years back. My wife was required to be there as a sponsor. It was free for us. We lived close enough to the speedway to hear the cars in our front yard. Charlotte was fun, but not the same.

It is 'rumored" to be true. Carroll Rosenbloom - owner - supposedly had huge $$$ on the Colts and was to have sent word to the bench go for 6. Never verified though.
