Can't blame him.

I'm surprised with his name-recognition, that his people, and the NFL's people, couldn't have worked out a payout deal that would keep Gale Sayers' name out of the press.

Good for him, and his lawyers.

Seems it would more likely have been the knee injuries that cut his career short, not head injuries. He was an amazing running back, one would think in the short time he played he wasn't hit in the head that often. Defenses had enough trouble just bringing him down.
If Gale Sayers can sue and win, there has to be hundreds of other running backs able to do the same claiming a whole lot worse damages.

The recent payouts by the NFL might set interesting precedents.
I once, years ago, coached a Championship Atom Football team.
Those kids are approaching their 50's now.
Will one of them ultimately sue me and the amateur club that they played for?
Will former high school players be suing their schools and coaches?
Will former college players be suing the colleges?
Stay tuned.
The brain damage suits over football aren't over.
The question is, how deep will they extend into the past.
And if I were coaching football today, I might not be so keen to do so.

That is plain weird. Maybe he does have a serious head injury
