Anyone familiar with these ratings ? Apparently there are 2 horses per race but his explanation of how they are derived from his ratings is complex at least it is to me.

I hope this is the right place to post this .

This should be interesting. He was a poster here for a while and tangled with a few other posters.

If you go down to the bottom of the page at the link you provided, there's another link on how to use the "ability" numbers:

http://horseplayeru.com/using_abilitybk3.htm

It doesn't look like the info has been updated in two years.

I'm not a big fan of "lower is better" rating systems, but I can't speak to how accurate/effective these numbers are (or were).

I'm also not a fan of "hey, why handicap and do it the hard way, when you can get a single number and make it easy?"

Unless those numbers are all-world in their accuracy, it looks like a lazy way to lose money....

If you follow the link to Youtube from the main site, it appears he's posted 202 videos out there, but the most recent are looking at Gulfstream six months ago.

As someone who manages several web sites, I can understand the pain involved in updating them - but I don't run them as a business either....

Jon Luman is still around.

You can find him on Facebook everyday posting about the horses and ability-X ratings.

If I'm remembering correctly (and I may not be), they were completely inscrutable, and he'd use his ratings to backfit just about any race to demonstrate the superiority of his system.

Funny you say that, i wonder if you print out the ability x ratings if you could use them as the actual drywall. :)
