From past practices, the strict "legal" standpoint would be to take your original selection and NOT consider it a key BOXED exacta, but rather just having the keyed selection in the top position of the exacta.

That said, if I were your opponent, I would accept your clarification (i.e. consider the wager to be a key BOX) based on the following:
--- You made the clarification before the race went off
--- The total amount of the wager is consistent with the wager being a key exacta BOX, so I personally am quite confident that is WHAT YOU INTENDED.

No pain, you are just trying to cover what could happen in your match.

When you show up (i.e. post selections) and your opponent does not, you win by forfeit, regardless of what your selections do.

The forfeit does not become official until after the last race, as your opponent still has the option to submit selections late for those races not already run.

If they miss a game, an opponent can still get into to any following game up until you reach 3 total games won for that round.

Even if it appears that your opponent will end up being a no-show for the entire round, you still need to submit YOUR selections for each game (as proof that you showed up) until you reach 3 total games won for that round. If NEITHER player submits selections, the game will be scored as a double-forfeit. (In other words, no work-free point. You still have to go thru the motions of making selections.). :)

Scratches are refunded, and the player's ROI is calculated accordingly.

Example:

Player makes the following selections:
Race 1 --> $100 to win on #3. Horse loses.
Race 2 --> $100 to win on #7. Horse loses.
Race 3 --> $100 to win on #5. Horse is scratched.
Race 4 --> $100 to win on #1. Horse wins. $2 payout is $7.20
Race 5 --> $100 to win on #10 Horse loses.

ROI is calculated by dividing the total returns by (original total wagered minus scratches).

Total returns = 50 x $7.20 = $360
Original total wagered minus scratches = $500 - $100 = $400

ROI = $360 / $400 = 0.900

According to the contest rules, the Original total wagered will always be equal to $500 per game for each player.


Things do get more complicated to determine the amount of refunds when subject scratches are part of multi-horse exotic wagers, but they are none-the-less straight forward. I am available for help if need be.

That person is competing against me .... I saw no horse number being shown in the original post after our contested races started and pm'd the situation... asking for "What horse number" was intended there.

First day back in the saddle there is going to be many mistakes made.
This is a first time player of this contest also... so I am being very forgiving .. ( at least for today). All is cool.
