Hope I'm wrong about this, but it seems suspicious. First, the timing: a week after the summer season ends. In addition, I heard, this morning, that most of the firemen were out of town for a convention, and only a skeleton crew was available to deal with the fire.

While it does seem suspicious for the reasons you listed plus the fact it was the one section which was fairly intact after the hurricane, I hope it is not the case it would be unconscionable to take down all the other businesses with yours. I didn't know about the firemen being out of town.
Maruca's Pizza has/had some of the best pizza I've ever had and I'm a chauvinistic New York native. The Saw Mill, haven't been there in awhile but it was a real cool place. Such a shame.

Saw a picture in the Daily News today and while everything in the area was burned to the ground the Sawmill looked intact. A great place for porkroll, pizza and beer.
