I love to play a game each year at Sar and the Bel fall meet...the game is called, "is this the Derby winner?"
The thought ran through my mind when Big Brown romped on closing day at Sar a few years ago, and i'm thinking about a runner in R2 today...
Survival - what a pedigree.
By Giants Causeway, out of Matlacha Pass (dam of Point Of Entry, Pine Island and a decent runner in Caxambas Pass) and full sister to Pleasant Home and Country Hideaway.
Matlacha Pass' dam is an unraced daughter of Alabama winner Maplejinsky.
Odds are astronomical that Shug would win the Derby two years in a row, and Survival has a long journey ahead...but it will be fun to see how this colt develops. Lots of turf works, so maybe that's the surface they have in mind for the future.
