Only new thing NYRA has announced is they are rolling out new wagering machines.
Haven't seen anything regarding Trakus.

I never had an issue with them. Although one of my friends did say they are a little complicated when it comes to making horizontal wagers.

There's a guest on Steve Byk's show talking about betting back horses who were "against the bias" on the Saratoga turf. Other than extremely rare circumstances on the FG turf, I can't think of a grass course in North America where one wants to be wide on the turns. Funny thing about ground loss; saving ground on the grass is a universal "bias"/truth.

There were lots of horses during about a 10 day period at Saratoga that had little chance, and those are the ones to watch at Belmont. Possible they will be wide again of course, but it won't be a death sentence like it was at the Spa. The running lines will look bad and will inflate the odds.

I made it to Laurel Park back in June for the first time since 1998, when it was my "home track" for 5+ years. The same exact machines were in place and they were probably installed in ~'95 or'96.

Yes, P5 with a 15% takeout.

From Steve Byk at Derby Trail:

"Mutuels Dept. exec Pat Mahoney confirms 15% rake P5 era begins Saturday, Opening Day at Belmont! 5 of 5 splits pool. No consos. Net pool carryovers if no winners.. Races 1-5 daily.

Should be a huge hit.."

I was at Belmont yesterday and tried the new machines.I was never a fan of the old machines, but must admit, the new machines seem to be pretty easy to use. As far as betting machines go,in my opinion the best machines were the old "Tiny Tim" machines.I believe the new machines will be an improvement.

Great, or at least mostly. Could have been 14% isn't that California's? Also, I think I would rather have last 5 or something similar to Monmouths mid card...but still pretty cool.

Ok...
Now. Does this system work sort of like a transponder on an aircraft?
Where there is a transmitter, I assume in the saddle cloth which sends a signal received by an antenna hooked up to a tracking system?

chiclets?

From DRF.....
Graphically, O’Rourke said it is NYRA’s intent to keep the running order of the top-four horses on the screen, slightly above the “floating chicklets,” as they’ve become to be known, that represent all the runners in a race.

Cholly
09-06-2013, 07:12 AM
From DRF.....

Chiclets are coming? Shit. Big bummer.

Cholly hates chiclets. As an annoyance, they rank up there with gas-powered leaf blowers. They're a design disaster, a visual abomination, a needless redundancy intruding onto the small screen. If saddle cloth colors, jockey silks, and the announcer's call are not enough to figure it out, attention issues are present.

They might as well take the horses off the screen entirely and just let us bet on Dot Races.

I was thrilled to hear about Trakus. I have a lot of ideas for using that information. Though I found it kind of ironic that it will be debuting at the NYRA track where ground loss is probably the least meaningful of the NYRA tracks.

I am joining you in signing up with Trakus. Also I believe if Trakus is implemented industry wide in thoroughbred racing there will be a dramatic change in how the horseracing game is played because you will have newcomers who will be delighted with the data and begin to build predictive models that do not exist today. Additionally, I believe if the Trakus venture is successful, other companies will develop electronic signal processing for horseracing data collection and distribution that will push the curve farther than Trakus has.

The new machines at Belmont are fine once your eyes get used to the layout of the screen. Belmont is still a great place.

My only complaint about Belmont is that I have to have a good day just to afford a burger and lemonade. ;)

I'm seeing this a bit differently..
Beginning with the second split time..Here's the actual split times.
2f to 4f....Equ 25.13..Trakus 26.17....4f to 6f...Equ 24.82 Trakus 24.76..6f to 8f..Equ 24.68 Trakus 24.85 and 8f to 10f Equ 22.58 Trakus 22.51..
Seems to me there is no real consistency of either timing device to actually make a case for one being better than the other.
The value, I think in trakus is that each horse is timed and his distance traveled is in the trakus chart.

On occasion, I bet NASCAR races on my offshore account. I bet driver vs driver matchups. I will take three matchups and parlay them. I usually get about 6 to as much as 10-1...I do fairly well at them.
Yeah, sounds like I am a degenerate gambler..Well, not really.
I bet small amounts on these things.
I used to be a pretty regular fan of NASCAR.Not so much anymore....People here in NC ask who my favorite driver is..My answer is always "the ones on which my bets are riding that week"...if it's a native Southerner who asked, I get the gasps of horror . They act like I just pissed in their morning grits. I laugh and walk away..
Oh well....Whatever blows up your skirt. I always say.
Sportsmans was knocked down quite some time ago...
Did they not at one time run the Illinois Derby there?

Looking at a few races, the differences are concerning.
In a game measured in 100s of seconds, the variance between the two are not good.

Now the question is, is Trakus way off or are all the times up to now way off?
Look at the 7th race. .29 off is significant. How many Beyer points is 3/10 at 1m16?
