Saturday I left my betting voucher in the machine. It was less than $50 but this has haunted me worse than losing it on a day at the races. I go to bed and think about it....I wake up thinking about it....and it is in the forefront of my thoughts all day. I think I could need meds......

That's exactly how I look at it! :)

After all...it is better to give than to receive.

Can u PLEASE tell us what your saying to yourself about that person who grabbed it.......

Also if I left a $50 voucher in the machine I'd be on megatilt......would much rather the casino/track keep the money then a random scumbag.....

Next time your at the track just go they're with the mentality that they all took it...I hate everubody there

I did not have happy thoughts about anyone in the general vicinity of the machine. I actually looked hard at all the faces to see if I could find a guilty one. Certainly the dirtbag that "found" that voucher knew exactly what I looked like. It was busy and the machines were in constant use. So he would have been right behind me.

Every losing bet you make is giving money to random scumbags. And we thank you for it.

Just keep in mind, when you die you'll lose every dime you own, and everything you possess including your body. It will look a lot less significant from that perspective. This would be a good time to start practicing the art of "letting go" you will eventually have to deal with. Ironically what you may find is the "attachment" to material wealth is what makes one unhappy. You can enjoy materialism, but it should not define you.

In defense of the guy who FINDS the voucher... especially a small one... what is he supposed to do? I mean, it isn't like you can run around saying, "Did anybody lose a voucher?"

Since I rarely play at a physical track, I find the voucher system very unnatural. I would say that at least 3 times per day I find myself turning away without the voucher. I remember (usually) but have lost a couple of small ones. That is why I TRY to keep them small and cash out often.

My son Justin left a voucher in a machine at Saratoga next to the PA tent. $200+. He realized it in about 2 minutes. He went to the windows next to the tent, the teller alerted security. Justin pointed out the machine, the teller called his office. The ticket serial # was verified and the ticket voided; all this within 5-6 minutes. Now, had it been cashed in that time frame, he would have been SOL. Anyway, he got his $$$ back. All this within 15-20 minutes

A couple years ago I was at my local OTB early on a busy day. I was standing behind a guy at a machine and just happened to notice his balance, over $400. This guy wasn't familiar to me and was a bit on the "down and out" side, so I was surprised to see that balance.

A couple minutes later, one of the weekend regulars (guy in his late 40s, let's call him Pete) is at the machine in a virtual panic, seems he left his voucher in there. The OTB workers quickly become involved. I walk up to Pete and ask him how much was on the voucher, he tells me the exact amount I saw with the guy in front of me.

I quietly tell him what I saw and point the guy out. He immediately confronts the guy while I go back to my business, trying to listen as it plays out. The guy initially denies having the voucher, but then things got a bit heated and Pete made it clear that either the guy empty his pockets, or he'd call the cops and they could do it for him. There were other people involved in the exchange now too..

So the guy gives the voucher back, and things settle down. A little bit later a very grateful Pete approached me and insisted I take a few bucks as his way of saying thanks. I say no need, but he insists, I think it was like $14, he called it "gas money".

I don't know if it ever got back to the "guy" that I was the one who fingered him, and I have to admit I was looking over my shoulder for a weeks afterward. But I only saw him once or twice again after that.

Just another exciting day at the OTB. :D

There are honest and dishonest people around...and this applies to racetrack and OTB employees as well.

I was playing at an OTB in Oakbrook, IL a few years ago...and I thought that I lost a $500 voucher. I thought that I left the voucher at the machine that I had used a couple of minutes prior...when the reality was that I had placed it among some of my losing tickets, and had tossed it in the large pile of losing tickets on the top of my desk.

When I ran to the machine and didn't find it there...I went to one of the "managers"...and he told me that they would check to see the status of my voucher...and that he would issue me a new voucher if my voucher had not been cashed by anybody else.

As the manager was checking out my voucher...I started checking through the losing tickets on my desk...and I found the missing voucher. I went looking for the manager to tell him, but he was no-where to be found...so I went back to my seat.

The manager shows up a few minutes later...and tells me apologetically that there is nothing that they could do for me...because my voucher had already been cashed by another customer who had subsequently left the place. I asked him if he was sure that my voucher had indeed been cashed by someone else...and he told me that he was.

I just shook my head...and cashed my voucher and went home.

Even now I still wonder if that manager was a thief...or just too lazy to do his job.

I've been known to stick vouchers in a machine to start my wagers without looking at account balance before wagering. A couple of times frantic bettors have asked me if i saw a voucher left in the machine. More than once i realized later that indeed my voucher was higher than anticipated. After figuring out the difference we went to the tellers to cash the voucher and settle up. Was lucky one time after leaving a $400 voucher reporting it right away and they put a hold on the ticket.

True enough, but the upside of dying is that a lot of the things that piss you off now won't bother you any more.

Never had this happen before.

Saturday at Canterbury I placed my bets and all tickets printed, but when I hit the finish button, the last bet was printed then the machine went to the start mode without printing my left over balance.

They checked the at the main computer then brought me back a voucher.

They explained that it was the third time that day it happened and guessed that when Sport tech did an update to their system, it caused a glitch.

I told people around me to be aware, and hope nobody else had that problem.

http://www.buffalo.edu/news/releases/2013/02/003.html I have to have more to be able to give.. unless I have a money printing machine :)

Not for that dollar amount, but been there.

Racetracks really need to institute some kind of witness protection program.

Actually I don't blame the guy a bit really. It was my stupid mistake. I don't know what I was thinking. Obviously not much.

I once returned a $3000 voucher to a guy who used the self help terminal before I did. He was very thankful and said he would take care of me before he left. Before he walked out, he said "thanks again" and handed me a voucher. I was betting and didn't pay attention to what was on it-it was a $500 voucher! I was floored by the generosity. People leave vouchers in those terminals all the time it seems.
