Taking a break from my greyhounds and coming back for harness racing starting today. Thought I would be here live for the Meadows racing.

Been a long while since I watched the Meadows (well, not that long as I did enter that contest on Adios Day)...last time I watched regularly was in Oct 2012.

Missed raced 1 so I will be posting starting with Race 2...now to get a pp's.

I am drawn to two horses in this race. Summer Blush (# 7) 10/1 based on a particular race and the fact that Bruce Riegle has a history of having his horses REAL sharp following the Meadows layoff for track maintenance. The other horse that caught my eye is Mystical Touch (# 2) 3/1 who seems to have the most speed and now is first time lasix.

Of the two, I would go with Riegle's horse (# 7).

Somestarsomewhere (# 7) is the no brainer pick of the year. Palone/Burke come to knife loaded for bear with a gun. The only question is who to use underneath the probable heavy favorite.

Mccovey (# 2) seems best suited to get onto this ticket. I would probably run the 7-2-all and 7-all-2 wager in the Trifecta.

Exacta play would be 7 over the 2,3 and 6. I really don't expect this to pay much. Given the first two races were won by bombs, a favorite is due.

I am tuned in a bit RTD...Good Luck with your plays today..:jump:

Me personally, I get into trouble after the track has been closed for a couple of weeks....I will watch and see things...

McCovey tired to lose the second spot but did finish third at 23/1. Palone/Burke went off at 1/9 as expected. The exotics didn't pay much but that too was expected. On to the race 4.

I am torn among four horses here. I am going with a two horse exacta key in this race.
$2 Ex On top will be Bo Tox Hanover (# 1) and Nobody's Business (# 4)
over (# 1) (# 4) Shucked (# 5) and Voltina (# 7).

Turning them around with a $1 ticket (1,4,5,7 over 1,4).

Now I know why I love greyhounds more. No such thing as an injury or objection. This race ended up 1-4-5-7. Inquiry sign remains posted on the (# 5) who might have interfered with the (# 2). Hate to have my financial life in the hands of these so called judges.

Ended up with a $3 Ex. Those that bet the superfecta using the above numbers were taken down by the judges. Greyhounds have it over the horse racing industry just on this basis.

Seems Troy McDougal, step son of Roger Huston, purchased a nice trotter in (# 8) Pan And Suffering out of the Peter Pan breeding. Won last out in 55 and piece. Anywhere near that effort wins for fun here.

I think a three horse key underneath for the Tri might be lucrative.

The (# 6) had the trip but tired and backed up as they headed to the lane. Ended up with a $3 tri (shortest odds on the board, 3/5, 5/1 and 4/1). Pan And Suffering jogged to an easy win.

Whyamigray (# 7) is a hunch play as I am drawn to this who has speed for position and seems to be stronger in the lane than either Ballistic Tip (# 3) or Native Blue (# 2) though the front end is really hold up well since they redid the track.

The play is
$2 Ex
7/2,3,9

$1 Ex
2,3,9/7

Please note that they are going with a trailer, (# 10) in this race. Really never liked that spot as they hardly ever won but they did have a high percentage of being on the superfecta ticket when they last had 10 horses entered in a race.

I always played the ex more than either the tri or super in my lifetime at this track. Seems with the 20 percent retention and the tri being 35%, there was more money to be made in the exacta pool. Really do not know now, but on average the Ex pools were about even with the trifecta pools on most days. I did a study for one week last summer with the various PA tracks and their pools and posted it on my site...if interested here is the link

Brett went to the aggressive route and try to get the pocket trip behind the (# 2). He spent too much energy early and was not as strong as usual in the lane. He finished third losing the second spot in mid stretch.

The (# 10) caught the last spot on the super ticket.

It is races like this that I avoid like the plague. Leslie Zendt is the daughter of Walter Dunn. Leslie has the (# 2) Wing Tips driven by Dave Palone (who married William Zendt's daughter). So in effect, he is driving for his mother in law although she is younger than David.

Now her dad, Walter Dunn has entered Trustworthy Kid (# 7) driven by Brian Zendt. Brian is the son of Bill so in effect, Leslie is his step mother but is driving for her dad's horse. Brian is also Dave Palone's brother in law.

It is races like this I avoid totally and move on to the next race.

I have to correct the head number of Trustworthy Kid it should be (# 5) who deadheated for the win. While I am on this topic, Leslie Dunn Zendt and Bill Zendt have been trying to qualify Sir Caviar a lot in the recent months but he is unable to race a mile without making a break or two. Really hope they get him back to the races as he was a beast when right.

Obee (# 3) 9/2 Seems this one has the speed for position and given the post, should be in the thick of things throughout the race. I really hate trotters from the rail position at this track and when favored, I take a shot at beating them. For this race, I would go with the exacta, 3-all and all-3 hoping for the (# 1) to break and catching a longshot with the (# 3).

I have been pushing, writing, contacting, letters to the editors since the ten cent super came out in flat racing in Texas some years ago but the Meadows caters to what we call a syndicate, a few big time bettors (by the Meadows standards). They were against the $1 supers until I filed a complaint with the Racing Commission as out of state simulcast wagers were made in $1 increments and took down the whole pool three times in one week. The very next week we had the ability to bet $1 DD and $1 Supers.

The best the Meadows would do was year or so ago, lowered it to fifty cents. They would of doubled the pools if they lowered it to a dime....really don't think the half a buck would do much to help the handle as it just saved me money as I bet half as much. In greyhound racing I spend $21 to key wheel a puppy in the super and have won at times in the 300 buck range..

I have to wonder how the Meadows pays out on 60 cent supers? With computers now a days it all goes down to the penny on tracks with 10 cent supers so I guess they do the same, probably the nickle payout instead of the penny denomination. Do the results in Canada reflect payouts to the nearest nickle?

Most tracks get 3 percent rewards (rebates) that are accessible right after the race goes official.

Seems tracks with their own phone/internet wagering systems charge more for these ADW's and they can't give us the same rebates.

Race 14
Some may call me crazy as Brad Provost rarely wins a race but I am going with NJ Express (# 2). Willie owns and trains, Brad is his son. Seems their barn is ready. I will just bet this one across the board. If I am right, the show price probably will cover the $6 to bet across the board. Looking at the next race, second part of the Late DD, I would use only one in that race, (# 2).
$2 w/p/s #2
$2 DD 2-2.
----------------------------------
Brad went second over and when his cover failed to keep up, he was slow to react to move three wide. He had second place locked up. Still am shaking my head that he went off at 7/5. WOW.

Race 15
Invictus Hanover (# 2) 3/1
Here again Palone/Burke enter into a knife fight with a bear gun. Should win easily and be near 1/9 at post tim.

$2 Super
2/4,6,8/4,6,8/4,6,8

$0.50 Super
2/4,6,8/4,6,8/all
2/4.6.8/all/4,6,8

$2 Ex
2/4,6,8
Boy was Burke's horse short in the lane. Winner of 1:52 and a piece just a few starts ago and now can't pace 1:56:2 . I should have turned my exacta wagers and put the (# 2) in the second spot but I thought he had no chance of finishing second.

It was fun Dave. I think I will try this again tomorrow afternoon. Seems the Meadows will be racing these matinees this whole month except that one Saturday for the Sire Stake Finals where they will have a 6:55pm start.

NO PICKS in race 8

Boy RTD you are really uptodate with your relations of drivers, trainers and owners.

That remark about the Mother-in-law being younger than the son-in-law drew a good chuckle outta me.

lol

It is not updated currently as all this transpired a long time before I left the Meadows. Guess growing up there as a worker, patron and fan left me absorbing many different things about the place. Add in playing basketball with some of the drivers, trainers and owners as well as softball over the years one tends to get to know them. I just learned a long time ago to avoid races with strong family ties and it was one of the things that got harder to do over the years as most of the backside is related in one way or another via the marriage route. Some are on thier first marriage while others are on their second or third or more. Just depends.

Would of been nice if the (# 1) broke here and gave the 20/1 (# 4) the second spot. Oh well, a win is a win is a win. Can't believe they bet the (# 8) down to 4/5.
I was going to follow up with this one this week but didn't. He was placed the winner do to a DQ on the winner but even at second place, he was worth the bet. Sometime you should follow up these picks as you never know if you and they are lucky.

This second payout was run today, Monday Sep 9th.
