A friend got a gift laptop with w8. She has no clue how to use it - nor do I! Can she somehow revert back to w7 easily?
Thanks.

Good news...In the beginning when I got my new Win 8 machine, I was taken aback, big time, when I first tried to go to work on my new baby...

The solution was simple, as Ralph showed above, I use Classic Shell, as well...

It will boot to your win7 desktop, and give you choices for the kind of "Start Menu" "Start Button" you would prefer....

For me now, it is business as usual, I do anything and everything that I used to do, only better now.....

A WIN8 machine is very, very stable, I have yet to have a crash yet in almost 8months now....

Plus, you can use an older version of Internet Explorer (included with Classic Shell), because frankly, I still haven't figured out how to make the most of the mail program in win8...haha..

I use Mozilla Thunderbird as my Email program of choice, it works well, in fact it is in the same spirit of older versioins of Outlook Express.....A very nice program with lots of filters and defenses against bad mail....

Classic Shell, give it an audition...I think you will like it....I don't even use the Win 8 part of my machine, at all....No need for it the way I do things....

But, if you like touchscreens WIN8 has a lot to offer in that regard, I guess...But personally, I think WIN8 was a step backwards in productivity rewards...
