Over on the thoroughbred section, they have plenty of threads on favorite/least favorite tracks to visit, best food, memorable wins/losses, etc. However, there is no such thread(s) for harness.

This past summer I made my way to several new tracks and caught some great races. To start off, I live in the Western New York area so I have made my way to Woodbine and Mohawk many times. I've seen some great horses race in the NYSS here at Buffalo Raceway and Batavia Downs. But besides these, I never really made it to any other tracks.

At the start of the year, I made my way up to Woodbine with my father to catch Classic Gent start off the year 7 for 7. We didn't really catch any other races live until the eliminations for the NA Cup card at Mohawk. That Friday, Mohawk had eliminations for the trotters. Bee a Magician and To Dream On squared off, of course Bee a Magician prevailed. Maven also was another highlight on the card.

The following weekend, we made our way up to Mohawk again for the North America Cup. I've been to Saratoga many times and the atmosphere at Mohawk that night was similar. The place was absolutely packed and they had some fun activities. I have been a big fan of Captaintreacherous, so it made the night all the more memorable when he won. Not to mention, I had made a significant wager on him to win. The card that night was awesome, I Luv the Nitelife had an impressive performance and Bee a Magician dueled and fought off Angie's Lucky Star in the stretch.

I made another trip to Mohawk for the Canadian Breeders Classic and Maple Leaf Trot. Tetrick won races left and right that night, including the feature event with Market Share. Mach it So, Anndrovette, and Drop the Ball were also exciting to watch.

I made several stops on the NYSS circuit this summer as well. I saw three year old pacing fillies at BR, three year old pacing colts and geldings at Saratoga, and three year old trotting fillies at Vernon. I'm sure I'll catch a bunch more at Batavia this month. I did see Bolt the Duer shatter the track record at Saratoga a few weeks ago.

The Metro, Canadian Pacing Derby, and She's a Great Lady eliminations were yesterday at Mohawk. Arthur Blue Chip, Precocious Beauty, Beach Gal, Western Vintage, A Rocknroll Dance, Bolt the Duer, and Let's Drink on It all won their eliminations and make the finals very interesting next week. I'm very excited to go back up next Saturday to see the finals.

Finally, the Cane Pace is on Labor Day. Tioga Downs is about three hours from me, I'll be making my first visit to Tioga next Monday. The Driver's All Star Game promotion that Tioga and Vernon run concludes that day. Then of course there's the Captain and I Luv the Nitelife headlining the card.

It has been an awesome summer and I got to see some great horses, drivers, and trainers compete for some of the most prestigious races in harness racing. Feel free to share your stories, too!

My Dad was a big Albatross fan . He passed away young and didn't get to seehis progeny . He would have been in heaven on earth with his son an grandson .

My brother would always take me along with him to the Meadowlands and I'm glad I went along .

I got to see Albatross' champion son , Niatross . He is truly a legend .
We also later on had to make it to see Nihalator . We experienced some of the finest hours of the sport . Great memories . Huge turnouts .
I do hope the Meadowlands recovers , they hosted some of the best this
sport has to offer .

My most outstanding experience was when I first got involved with ownership of a standardbred, I hooked up with an assistant trainer who was striking out on his own and we put in $5000 claim on a 8yo trotter at The Meadows (my home).

Turned out he didn't have claiming rights, (in those days you needed a start in a race in the current year to be authorized for claiming) so this partner decided to use the name of his boss for the claim. (without my or anyones knowledge).

Also turns out that his "boss" was having dinner at the clubhouse that night and happened to be with the owner of the horse we were claiming. Imagine their surprise when they announced the claim....The owner said...

"You invite me to dinner and claim my horse ????"

Oh BTW, the owners name...Al Capone, ......(not the Al Capone)

Claimed disallowed, paid the fine...

I'm pretty excited to go. From what I understand, it is a fairly new facility.

Been following the game since Albratoss' 2yo season in 1970. Was at the Big M on opening night, 9/1/76. Will be there when the new Meadowlands grandstand opens on 11/23.

Kudos to Jeff Gural for keeping the Big M alive through tough times.

Do you think he'll get the top drivers back?

You mean Brennan & Sears? The Big M driving colony is quite strong as it is.

Made it out to Tioga this afternoon for the Cane Pace. About a two and a half hour ride from Buffalo. Food at the buffet was good. Cool giveaways with the Callahan bobblehead and the shirts. Also nice to see and meet the drivers.

The All Star driver's game was pretty exciting in the last leg. Jimmy Marohn is very talented and probably doesn't get as much recognition as he deserves. The Captain just refuses to lose, a nice drive by Tetrick too.

I'm mostly a thoroughbred player, but I also play harness. The worst track I have been to is Lebanon Raceway. I only go because it is close to my home. I like The Red Mile the best. In my opinion it is what a racetrack should be. It's clean, well kept, and safe. But, it is a little on the rough side. A racetrack should not be a country club. The Red Mile is a little on the seamy side. The way a track should be. Scioto Downs is much better since it became a racino. I love the county fair atmosphere at Delaware, Ohio. The Little Brown Jug is a blast.

As you may have guessed the assistant and 'boss' were Joe and Dean, and I still remember the name of the horse...Stormy Brewster.

Any others from paceadv that go to this place?

I didn't know it was him. Stormy Brewster was a trotter as I recall. Been so many years ago. That is one thing I love about all sports, it is the history of the sport.

Al Capone's wife Alvira (yes Al married Alvira) still has a stable and think one won a race today if my memory serves me right. They always loved the trotters. Alvira still does.

funny you should ask. I basically used to live there more than my home that is six miles from the place. I have not been at the Meadows since March 15th, 2012. That was the second anniversary of the day we hit the last Pick-6 with a guarantee $6k. I even made a page out of it to celebrate that day. Randy and I bet a $12 ticket.
