I did some research and found the following facts regarding QB wins in the post season. Joe Flacco has 5 complete seasons at this point and has 9 post season wins from 2008 through 2012. he beats out every so-called 'elite' QB in the NFL in the last 5 years.

Joe Flacco - 2-1-1-1-4 = 9

Big Ben - 3-0-2-0-0 = 5

Rodgers - 0-0-4-0-1 = 5

Brees - 0-3-0-1-0 = 4

E. Manning - 0-0-0-4-0 = 4

Brady - 0-0-0-2-1 = 3

P. Manning - 0-2-0-0-0 = 2

Seems Flacco has won at least 1 playoff game every year. If Rodgers had done that the Pack would have played in at least 2 NFC championship games and who knows how that would have turned out. Good for Flacco.

I haven't been a fan of Flacco, but he had a good playoffs last year.

There's a sense that he may have matured.

Another good stat is ROAD post season wins. I know Eli Manning and Flacco are both near the top.

There is a reason why there on the road

And there is a reason why Eli has so many 4th q comebacks

last year was a breakout year of sorts for the read-option

and Brees and the Saints were not good, and Rodgers (as far as I remember) didn't have a great year.

I think that things could get back to the big number QBs this season.

The fans wanted Flacco traded just before the playoffs last year. He had a good run in the playoffs, buit could just as easily become the Flacco fans wanted to trade.

A more relevant stat would be to show the first five seasons for each of these QB's. There's a good deal of cherry picking this way. Besides, the defense won all those games his first four years.

1.Never beat Ben in playoffs
2.None of the above Qbs had elite defense outside of Pitt
3.Hes a Denver DB dummy away from winning nothing

Flacco has a place in my heart. Had him at 80-1 to win rookie of the year and he came in 2nd. Was a good ride but he is nowhere near an elite QB.

You deny that a strong component of Raven fans were having doubts about Flacco just prior to the playoffs?? I read the Raven football forums. They were not happy. Honestly, what we saw in the playoffs was not the same Flacco I've been watching for five years. He's a good QB, but doesn't approach greatness in any way, shape, or form. He's just above average (top 8-12). I'd put him alongside Ryan in the rankings.

I think Flacco is in the top 5 now.

In no particular order Rodgers,Eli, Flacco, Ben and Brees.

Payton will never catch Eli in Super Bowl rings and Brady won't win another playoff game unless he goes elsewhere.

Aren't cartel drugs still illegal in FL?

When I rate QB in situations like these, I ask, "what QB would I want to have on my team if my very life depended on the outcome of a game".

In no order, I'd select:

Peyton
Brady
Ben
Rodgers
Eli
Brees (I believe is starting to come back to the pack)

I wouldn't select any other guys. Ryan, Schaub, Kapernik, and Flacco would be in the next six guys.

I would have had Brady near the top and Peyton somewhere on my list 7 or 8 years ago. Not anymore.

I am getting a little tired of the word "elite".....elite according to what criteria?

the ability to put up huge passing numbers/QB ratings and win a bunch of games?
OR
the ability to win the big postseason games when it's all on the line?

I define elite using the latter definition.
In playoff time when the weather is shitty and the play is more physical than ever, I prefer guys like Ben, Flacco and Eli over Peyton, Brees and Rodgers.

Say what you want about the Flacco bomb in Denver...Peyton threw a HUGE pick in overtime (right?) and that was that. Flacco didn't throw a pick all postseason I believe.
Rodgers had one postseason when he was red hot and GB won the Super Bowl...most of the other times they were one and done.

I think people use "elite" because it is so subjective that no definition is really required, and that they're too lazy to look for another term more fitting to the task. Only qb's, it seems, are elite. Is there an elite class of strikeout pitchers? Elite point guards? Elite place kickers? Elite hockey goons?

Even those that grant elite status are unsure. Ask any of the ESPN talking heads who are the top five elite qb's, and any one of them will give you a list of seven or eight names, math not being one of their strong points.

If one only looked at playoff wins, then Mark Sanchez would be a top 10 QB in the NFL. Maybe top 7 or 8.

Doesn't tell the whole story.
