this will change the landscape of the game. there are more horses being bred in New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania than ever before, and the Maryland program is starting to rock. according to these figures the take away has to be in Florida, Illinois, Kentucky and Texas.

New Mexico and California have decent programs. Virginia will probably get hit pretty big too.

Fast forward a few years and 4-horse fields will be the norm (3 in California). We'll remember wistfully the days of races that had unbelievably huge six horse fields. Not to worry though--even with just three horses Calder will still offer trifectas.

I don't want to see my hometrack go but if in the end it's for the better of the game I'm all for it.
