Race One:
:6: Tenango had the worst of trips on opening day. The Tale of the Cat-bred gelding was bumped shortly after leaving the gate. Then, after angling out, he ran into tight quarters in mid-stretch and was badly squeezed. By this time, the gelding was doing his best interpretation of “Lost in Saratoga”. These unfortunate chain of events badly compromised any chance this horse had of hitting the tote. Should benefit from an outside starting post. Any kind of clean trip and he should be in the mix.
Consider: :2: Tug of War; :7: Moonlight Song; :5: Intermix
Race Two:
:5: Expression has the board in her last four; two of those were in stakes competition. If there’s any residual moisture on the racetrack, she should benefit. Irad Ortiz, Jr. for trainer Charlton Baker.
Consider: :1: Ann’s Smart Dancer; :2: Roman Invader
Race Three:
:7: Rubysandpearls won the Java Gold back in February but then seemed to fall apart. In his last, he was eased. However, this 3-year-old gelding has the back-class, if ready, to win against this field. He’s another horse who should benefit from residual moisture.
Consider: :6: Where’s Danny; :5: The Sixties; :1: El Cuadro
Race Four:
:2: Can’t Catch Kate was caught wide in her last race back in March at Gulfstream. Prior to that the Shakespeare-bred filly was second at a mile. Her morning works are adequate. If reasonably ready… Javier Castellano for Chad Brown.
Consider: :6: Poster Girl; :4: Winner’s Legacy;:1: Neat Package.
Race Five:
:13: Dighton gets the nod as the grey gelding draws in as an MTO. Will benefit from moisture and outside post. Irad Ortiz for Rene Araya
Consider: :12: Harley, :7: Prudent Inverstor, :14: Sneaky Freud
Race Six:
:6: Mosler is a highly-priced, well-bred colt with wet-track pedigree (Danzig, Arch). Capable of winning at first asking. Joel Rosario for Bill Mott.
Consider::5: Sound of Freedom; :4: Point Hope; :3: Borseggitore
Race Seven:
:9: Charlie’s Punch is my long shot try. The gelding was fourth three weeks ago in this company. Luis Saez for Jamie Ness.
Consider: :7: Soul House; :8: Even Got Quiet; :5: Ambassador Bridge
Race Eight:
:11: Peace And Justice is my pick in this wide-open turf race with horses who have run better but never on the turf. This horse went wire to wire, albeit from the rail. Can this Danzig-bred colt repeat?
Consider: :7: Leadem in Ken; :4: Rivendell; :5: Abraham
Race Nine:
:8: Summer of Fun was second a nose in The Hilltop at Pimlico last May. The Broad Brush-bred filly has had some solid, steady works. Might surprise.
Consider::2: Praia,:5: Hedonemewrongsong; :10: Fab Flowers
Race Ten:
:6: King Kressa is my upset try. The gelding’s won two-straight, including the Grade III Poker on Independence Day. Irad Ortiz, Jr. reprises his ride for trainer Jeremiah Englehart,
Consider: :1: Wise Dan; :7: Lea; :3: Za Approval
Race Eleven:
:8: Adirondack Dancer won her last against similar at a mile on the turf. See no reason why this Dixieland Band-bred gelding can’t repeat. Cornelio Velasquez for Linda Rice.
Consider: :3: Namron; :11: Wildcatter; :7: Third Knight
