8:02pm and a nightmare is in developing stages....

Walk in from the clubhouse in a driving rainstorm and it wasn't raining when
I got out of the car.....whatever not a big deal

I walk into the program stand and ask for harness she says the meadowlands isn't racing.....I say what does that gotta do with anything...I was hear last year and betting Yonkers and ratcroft......

I go ok give me a ct book....I walk away....then I realize I might as well get a simulcast book the lady gives me a attitude that I already bought a ct one...the the manager walks over and gives me the simulcast book but I'm
A fish out of water with flats alone......guess I'll bet dog numbers tonight....

What a joke this is......

Recap......

Decent crowd on apron and I was at a table playing cards that anybody here could have retired on.....went 9 deep in 5th came back singles the 1 then use 4 and get beat by a 5-1.....

Pk3 $14.....$4......13.80(I think) pk3 pays 700 somethin

Racing side -160....never a threat
Poker +220.....played perfect being I was steaming from the equines

Horrible simulcast menu setup....also smoking inside I hated it

Also didn't like driving to and from....especially from....single lane highways very scary and the ride from CT to Severn seemed Like forever...

If track collector goes out there I'll take a ride but if not I'll wait to double header the timonium/ct double header

Also very funny was the steward stand is literally out in middle of parking lot....

Just gonna go to laurel for simulcast from now on.....I'm figuring it's safer then pimlico...

I had high hopes for that ct card, but only came up with oli ravioli in the 2nd as having any value. she was looking good, but ends up 2nd to that hokey ronney brown claim. :bang:

anyhow you sounded tired but that's a lot of driving for a day.

let's hear more about the poker.... what were you playing???

let's hear more about the poker.... what were you playing???

Played 1/2.......worst field ever assembled.......never made a wrong decision in 3 hours.....although to be fair I was in the racing section some of it

I did my favorite "check call" "check call" "lead" on a hand I got A9 i call $7 the waitress brings me a drink I look at to see the flop a majestic 9-9-2 board....Asian guy bets 25 I call another moron calls....turn is a 4 I check under the gun Asian guy fires 45 this other idiot calls(I call him a idiot cuz he was chastising a fish and was a guy who I could tell is a new player that plays at tavern poker leagues;) ).......river is a 7.....I lead out and bet $35 trying to squeeze every last penny out of the Asian guy....he calls with pocket 6s......

"check call" then leading out on river is great in the fact that if the guy was gonna make a big bet on river it slows him down and if he had sometimg you were gonn call anyway now it's cheaper and a outside chance he may fold.....try that next time your under the gun

And not to sound snobbish but I went in there with the mindset that nobody is beating this city guy in west Virginia......could have snapped that table for a grand but after racing was over felt like I
Was forced to leave.....(makes no sense)

Also I was sitting in the 10 seat and every hand the guy in the 1 seat was showing his cards.....after the 4th time telling him I started looking....my theory is if your showing I'm looking.......be careful when sitting on 1 and 10 seats very easy can show cards.....

I gotta be honest with you guys I've been buried financially since October Witt bills and a terrible Job it's amazing with a bankroll and knowledge of the game if you just play abc poker it's hard to lose....you gotta take a bad beat to lose....

Oh and I'm gonn put this in the poker section while I'm at laurel tonite and waiting for a race but say on a board of 10-j-Q-K-5 rainbow or no possible flush and you got the Ace and a guy bets $50 PLEASE JUST DON'T CALL!!!!!!! Can't tell u how many times they misread there hand or just don't have it......ITS THE DREAM SCENARIO IN POKER IT'S A NO LOSE SITUATION!!!!!!!! I
Always hear "I guess we're gonn chop it" and then the guy with the ace just calls and the other guy has a 9 or a set.......best advice I can give

I think it's a ATM all the time for me but "it's not good enough" for me....I gotta have a ego that I wanna beat the track instead......I really wish I could give you guys my poker sense......I'm not saying that I'm the best but I've seen so many hands as a dealer in high limit games that are do advanced when there used against regular players it's just not fair.....I feel like its just wasted talent on my part.......I'd rather go against the grain betting horses then go swim with the current and play cards which is shooting fish in a barrel....

One day I'll starten up......I do well betting horses but I know about 20 percent in horses in what I know in poker......if you ever have any questions about poker feel free to ask......I want Everybofy on this forum to be a winning poker player..!!!!

If I enjoyed poker that would be the place to go. Especially places like CT. If I hadn't invested 30 yrs and grew up around this game I'd have given it up yrs ago. I still enjoy it, but not nearly as much as i used to when I was a young man. That's why I bet 20 % of what I used to. You sound like you're pretty gifted, at the very least you should have lower wager size for horses , bigger for poker. Don't lose that poker stake.

I don't think you maximized your profit on this hand, whizz.

If I check under the gun with A9 on a 9-9-2-4 board, with the intention of leading out on the river...then I don't just call when the Asian bets $45 and the "idiot" calls. I raise it to $100. I gotta figure that at least one of the two guys has to call...and who knows; one of them might have the case 9...and we get all the money in right there.

In any case...your lead-out bet on the river betrays the strength of your hand anyway...and you don't know if either of them will call you then.

You have a better chance of getting called when there is one more card to come.

Hope springs eternal in the hearts of gamblers... :)

down there I may have led out small on the turn, but it is hard to say without being there for the specific table dynamics and situation. the "outside chance" he may fold (river) part though..... I don't see him folding a better hand.

off to night racing friends, wish me luck!!:)

I agree thaskalos......Definitly f***** up a free lunch but I'm just not financially stable right now to "play the game the way it should be played" sitting and playing abc poker just isn't my idea of playing cards.....was afraid to make a bet and if the guy raises all in then I feel I flushed $100 down the drain....but your 100000 percent correct.....plus I'm watching horses walking back
And forth to Racebook mind was in 32 places Hahahahaha

There were so many times last night there was 40 in the pot and I could have stole it I'm not properly rolled for that....

It sounds stupid but I need 30k to play cards how I wanna play....thats 20/40 2/5nl.......if I lose 3000 it's not end of the world,....not that losing 3k in 2/5 is really possible....

I'm foaming out of the mouth to play high stakes right now

actually, most of the players were probably from d.c. and nova. you'll probably see them at mdlive. i'd say your attitude was healthy though and I certainly expected you to win!!

will you be able to play at harrah's or horseshoe or whatever it's called in Baltimore when it opens? I know in the beginning pennsy dealers couldn't play in the state, but they eventually allowed them to play in other casinos. if you could play there that would be great for you as a diamond member, getting diamond points and benefits and playing weaker competition!!

Yes I should by then be able to gamble in md casinos....

Went to Charlestown and didn't even clock in.....don't feel like getting into a point war to get a higher card.....learned a cheap lesson..

My diamomd card expires in march but I think I get it for all of next year too....if not I'm gonna kill myself to get it but if you do it right it's not hard....

Max out 5 cent slots gotta play for like a 2 hours get 500 tier points....take a break go back later in day and do it again....you get 1000 tier credits then another 1000 bonus tier credits.....factor in your poker playing do this about 5 times your diamomd maybe 6........

The 5 sessions i did this I got buried alive....

Whizz, I've been around the block a few times and I got a big mouth...so I'll give you some advice...hoping that you won't take it the wrong way.

Forget about the horses for now...and build your stake in the game that you know best. You don't need 30k to play 2/5 NL...you need about 10k. I say this because you don't strike me as a particularly aggressive player...and the swings are easier to take that way.

Get together a 4k bankroll, and start playing the 1/2 game in a serious manner...without fantasizing about the horses. If you are HALF as good as you say you are...then you'll be up to the 2/5 game in no time -- and that game you can beat for some serious cash. If you got the heart for it -- and you live near a decent poker room -- then keep moving up as your bankroll improves.

Don't tell me about the games that our ego plays with us...because I can write a book on the subject. You can't split your attention between two games...and hope to get good results.

Pick the game that you are best at, and give it all you got. You'll thank me down the line, if we should ever meet across the green baize somewhere... :)

I just like betting horses to much to ever stop.....and poker it's just an easy game I can always pick them clean playing 1-2 but I like a challenge....one day I'll buckle down and focus on cards.....I just like the feeling too much of telling people I'm a winning harness bettor.....it's too rare HAHAHAHAHAHA

We will meet one day one of my best friends will be having a baby in Chicago due date is mid January i plan on being there for that...

thaskalos, we do have to remember that he's already going to be working full time at one of the biggest rooms in the world. so maybe spending some time with degenerates swearing at tv screens would be a welcome and refreshing break for him from sitting around the felt with a bunch of slimy angle shooters?? as far as budgeting his gambling $, I do think your advice is spot on. put more money where your edge is bigger.
