As an O's fan I am locked into Cal. I will say however that If the O's do not win I root for the Yankees. I hate the Red Sox and their obnoxious fans.

If you had to choose a player between DJ and CR it would be a tough call. Having seen Cal play nightly and Jeter on occasion I really don't know; Jeter was and still is a class act. Tough call.

No such thing as clutch..jeter peformed in playoffs just like he performed in regular season..

Clutch just means the players stats didnt drop im postseason..go look up jeter stats.in regular season and playoffs similiar.

I would say Jeter. Interestingly enough, both Jeter and Ripken have identical lifetime slugging % averages, .447, 7th or so among all time shortstops.

Statistically, they were about the same in hitting, with Jeter having better OnBase% and Cal slugging better.
Fielding stats show Ripken to be far superior at SS.

My own impression was that Cal was an impact offensive player during his time. Jeter was a really good player, but even surrounded by those Yankee lineups he wasn't in the same class of offensive threat.

Less sure of fielding. I'm surprised that Jeter looks so bad statistically. Intuitively I would think that the faster Jeter should have an edge in range whether into the hole or on looping 'texas leaguers' headed behind 3b.
Cal may have seen the ball sooner off the bat, and possibly been smarter with knowing when he could play deep and still make the throw.
Probably closer defensively than it looks statistically. At least Jeter didn't seem like a liability.

So in terms of playing ability, I would take a good hitter like Cal any day over a weaker hitter, considering both were good enough to field their position.

The streak probably puts Cal even further ahead considering it's impact.
