Race 1 – small field of 5, but very competitive. Looks like the 3 and 5 may set a slow pace, and the two favourites should complete the exacta

We will stick to some Pick 4 action here
$1 5 // 8 // 5,6,7,8 // 1,3,4,6,9 = $20
$1 3,5 // 7 // 7,8 // 3, 4, 6 = $12
$1 3,5 // 8 // 6,8 // 1,4,9 = $12

Race 2 – first stake of the day, for 2YO C+G

The 8 looks like a short price here, as he is already a stakes winner. In another chalkfest, the 6 and 7 should compete for 2nd

$5 EXA 8 // 6,7 = $10
$1 TRI 8 // 6,7 // 2,4,6,7 = $6
$0.20 SF 8 // 6,7 // 2,4,6,7 // ALL = $6

Race 3 – some bottom maiden claimers…aka caveat emptor

Well, the chalk express looks like it will continue, with the 8 having the class advantage over this group. We will see if we can get some $$ in the tri

$1 tri 8 // 5,6,7 // 2,4,5,6,7 = $12

Race 4 – the 2YO F take to track for their stake, and it’s a full field of 11

The 4 and 11 will be the favourites here, as they are the only two to have gone 6.5f in a stakes already. The 3 has gone 6f in a MSW, and ran a strong 2nd. There are 2 first time starters, and the balance have ran 3.5f.

$1 tri 4 // 1,3 // 1,2,3,5,6,7,9,10 = $14
$0.20 SF 3 // 4 // 1,2,5,6,7,9,10 // 1,2,5,6,7,9,10 = $8.40

Race 5 – 3 YO C+G
Perhaps the most contentious of the stake races today. A case can be made, and against, many in the field. Only one winner in the field going 1m 1/16 (the 7 in his last start in a maiden claimer), so the distance will be the question here.

Of those who have tried 1m+ without a win, the 3 has a 2nd and a 4th, against some pretty tough open company. The 6 ran 3rd in a 2 YO stake last fall going this distance, and the 1 was 2nd in that race. The 9 won going a mile twice in Arizona over the winter

$1 tri 3 // 2,5,6,8,9 // 2,5,6,8,9 = $20

Race 6 3 YO F

Similar to the previous race, we have a competitive group where none have won at the 1m 1/16th, with few attempts among the group.
The 1 ran a good race at the distance two back, making a wide move into moderate fractions before flattening out around the last turn. The 4 did well going a mile at TuP last winter, and the 2 had a try at the distance last year in a maiden race that was strong
Another toughie to start the late Win 4

$1 TRI 1 // 2 // ALL = $8
$1 TRI 1 // ALL // 2 = $8

Race 7 3YO+ F+M
Another toughie, with many of these racing against one another for the past year.
The 8 will likely be the post time favourite, but there are several other contenders. The pacesetter is likely the 2, coming off a stake score at EmD. The trainer has indicated that he thinks the horse prefers EmD, as opposed to the tight turns here. If that holds true, the 6 could be sitting in the golden spot.

$3 EXA 6 // 2,3,5,7 =$12
$1 EXA 2,3,5,7 // 6 = $4

Race 8 – The Classic, 3 YO+
The 5 and 7, perhaps with the 9, should help to set at least a moderate pace. I have been impressed with the 1 this year as he has come to form as a 4 year old, but he needs to take another step up against this company. The 8 is the likely favourite, and will be tough to be here.

$1 TRI 1,8 // 1,8 // 2,4,5,6,9 = $10
$2 EXA 8 // 1,9 = $4
$3 WP 1 = $6

Race 9 – Starter Handicap 1 3/8m
The 4 won the Canadian Derby at the distance in 2009, and is the likely favourite. The 7 and 9 seem to be the next level based on class, with most of the field normally racing in low level claimers. Hard to get a feel for the pace here, the 4 and 5 will be going, but will anyone else??

No play….well, $2 so I can cheer something
$2 WIN 7

Total bet $174.40
