So I use speed figures as a tool but not my final decision when handicapping. We also know that speed figures are different from each company that makes them. Ever since Trackmaster adjusted the figs to be more on the Beyer scale they aren't as solid. With that being said I am excited about the TimeformUS info and love how they designed it. So I decided to compare figures between the two for R8 SAR 7/19/13

Here are the results. Equibase first then timeform then for the hell of it I added the total together.

:1:
116/90/92/111 = 409
109/91/98/116 = 414

:2:
111/ 99/117/110 = 437
103/105/110/114 = 432

:3:
120/118/101/76 = 415
112/116/ 94/ 84 = 406

:4:
92/119/114/109 = 434
103/111/119/116 = 449

:5:
114/117/93/108 = 432
127/111/82/117 = 437

:6:
97/ 97/95/109 = 398
95/101/95/112 = 403

:7:
97/ 97/ 82/70 = 346
102/104/103/85 = 394

:8:
88/ 94/106/ 97 = 385
94/106/ 99/107 = 406

:9:
116/108/111/110 = 445
112/108/112/112 = 444

After doing some quick math the :4: :7: :8: seem like they are a little off between the two companies.

Especially the May 26 race for the :7: where the EQ fig is 82 and the TF fig is 103 which is comparable to his next two starts.

Other than that they seem to be on the same page. Anywhere between .25-2.25 when average by 4 races or 1-9 point range for a total of 4 races.

I've seen flawed EQ figs before where the number is way too small but never too big.

Any early thoughts on which might fig might stand out more or do they look somewhat equal?

Any early thoughts on which might fig might stand out more or do they look somewhat equal? You can compare (past) figs as much as a you want.. but the new thing about Timeform is their projection as to how the race would unfold. Of course, this is something people do mentally or in their database/software etc but Timeform seems to have streamlined it in their web view PPs and also the success rate of those projections seem to be fairly decent,
