I'm on a HP laptop.
Windows 7.

When I start my computer....my Google Home Page takes several minuets to come up.
I'll often get a message that Google failed to respond.
Actually when I went on this PA page, I got the message PA was not responding, then it came up.
This has been going on for a couple of weeks now.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Hi JR
Thanks for responding.
I'm on IE and my virus software is AVG. It recently was updated and that may be the issue?
I just renewed it, and I'm sorry, because right away they were starting up my home page really, really fast with a pop up that said "did you feel that" then a pitch for an advanced software program. Seems everything is a SCAM, JR. I am very sorry to say. I guess we are all getting paranoid, but for a good reason....they are monitoring us!
If I google a subject, any subject, within minuets I start getting ads for whatever I was looking at! This has been happening for the last 4 years.
I guess Obama is watching me!!!!!!

Sounds to me like you need "Spybot Search and Destroy". It's a free
program for home users and has saved my petunia's many a time. It
recently found five varmints on my cpu and was able to snuff out three
of them with the two left were in my memory. Bots sometimes install
themselves in your memory to keep you from deleting them. So the
spyware asked me for permission to nab and grab them at boot time
so they could finish them off and I agreed. On boot up, it did take a
long while for thousands of my files to get checked, but the spyware
nailed them red handed before they could get their loads in my memory.
The software is free for home users and they update every few days or
so to the latest list of spyware. Here is their homepage:

SPYBOT (http://www.safer-networking.org/)

Jerry?
Will it work along with AVG?

Jerry?

Yes it will. Just make sure you download the free home edition without
the antivirus, as you won't need it with AVG. Also, they give you a
choice to download from an "ad-free" download site. Choose that one
as in today's world, those download companies are putting ads on
your computer and loading people up with tool bars they don't need.

The new version takes awhile to understand. I always immunize my
entire system so that they can kill spyware before it installs on my
computer. You have to immunize your system and then update the
immunizations when ever they update. I like knowing I have the
extra protection in today's world.

You might also think about adding AdAware it is a good program that blocks most of the advertisements off the net.

I have it on mine and it works great. Those ads take up a lot of your computing power.

Jerry, I added Spybot. thanks.
I've used adAware in the past. I might try it.
I get so many ads, it's really frustrating.
Thanks for your help.

1. You may have a corrupted registry, so try a free reg cleaner like CCleaner.
2. You may have a corrupted host file. It is a read only hidden system text file that can be edited if needed. You can Google "corrupted Win 7 hosts file" for help on how to do it. Here is 1 link of many http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-system/how-to-fix-corrupted-etchosts-file/828b55b2-352f-43ed-b8a3-a77b25c58d6d
3. Besides the excellent Spybot S&S mentioned, also try free MalwareByte's Anti-Malware app. You should run these several apps at least once/week whether you appear to have problems or not. It has a daily updater too.
4. Also try deleting your internet file cache. It is under Internet Options
5. As soon as you detect serious issues with your system, try doing a System Restore and go back a few hours or days before (to the best of your knowledge) that some program was installed that may have caused the issue. S/R doesn't mess with your data files.
6. Keep your AVG app up to date.
7. Can you clarify that you have the Google home page automatically start when your PC boots or when you start Google yourself.

Hope this helps.
