To paraphrase Poltergeist, one of the very few movies that ever frightened me,

I'm heeeeeeeeerrrrrreeeeee!

Pulled into town about 3:30. Weather is great, track looked great as we passed it, and the digs are just as they were remembered. My little Quaker parrot will be vacationing at the Spa this year as well, but unlike me, she gets to stay for the whole meet.

Time to get some food! I'll let you know what's new. Can't wait to find out.

Busy day. Got the place set up and a refrigerator full of groceries. Had to hit Mexican Connection for dinner. Probably the best bang for the buck in town. Had only eaten breakfast today so was able to eat almost the whole chicken burrito. That was after some guacamole and some cheesy spinach dip.

Tomorrow will be by the track and think I'll also stop by the HoF. Missed getting a membership last year. Hopefully then over to the raceway to watch the races from Colonial tomorrow evening. Couple bombs I like a bit, #6 in the 2nd and the #11 in the 8th. Derby looks to be one to watch though.

Colonial is a fun trip if you ever get the chance. Really hot and humid but a nice track. Went for the Turf Cup 3 or 4 years ago. Some good BBQ places around there and not too far from Williamsburg, which though expensive is pretty interesting, and DC. We caught the Nats when we went and saw Maury Povich throw out the first pitch to commemorate the naming of the press box after his dad. Given the guys that played for the Nats that year, and Texas for that matter who they were playing, Maury fit in well.

See you tomorrow. Open house is Sunday if you are up here.

Bit of a gloomy morning up here but temps are much nicer than back down in the city.

Many of you have been looking forward to a P5 at Saratoga this year. Frankly I think it's an awful bet at any takeout level or feactional wagering level. I also don't think its presence on wagering menus has proved anything but the fact that people will gravitate to low priced things, which we already knew. Regardless, many of you wanted it and thought you were going to get it. But then not so fast

If any of you still doubt how badly NY racing is hamstrung by the state when trying to do anything, read the second part of this article very carefully.

Went over to the track for a bit. There's grass in the back yard and work going on everywhere. The small mutuel area that was to the left of the festival tent has been replaced with the hotdog and beer stand, which used to be free standing a little further down, but the two big bays are still close by, And you will see this everywhere this year

Also a new feature is the hoofprints walk of fame. Here's a history making horse at Saratoga. However there is one memorialized there that has been pretty much forgotten. Look up "Eight Thrity", b. 1936. Might have one of the best Saratoga records ever.

One more bomb for the day, AP 9 #5. They cross entered him in a later stakes race but going here. Could get loose and not stop. Just think, in a week I can make Saratoga picks!

Humid and overcast for open house day, 11am-4pm. We really need to stop calling the featured act Zenyatta. Her name is Zendaya and I guess she has a vey popular show on the Disney Channel and won on that dancing reality show which I've never watched. Guess they "sold out" the otherwise free seats but there is still general admission on the apron. Stage is going to be on the dirt track I think.

Lots of fun turf races yesterday between Arlington and Calder. Watched most of them at Fortunes at the Raceway and finished up with the VA Derby over a couple drinks at Sperry's. Went buffet style at Fortunes. Not bad at all though the choices were pretty buffet standard. They also had a fixed earlybird dinner plan that looked good as well. Do the names of restaurants at tracks and casinos bother anyone else? They're always named something like Fortunes or Longshots. Gives it that one step above fast food sound.

Anyway, the word we all must become familiar with is "Sharknado". If you watched the Syfy channel Thursday night, you know of what I speak. If you didn't, don't ask me to explain the film as I can't. Just roll with the byline "Sharks. Tornados. Sharknado" and Goggle it. "Sharknado" should be used in the same way as "bad" meaning either it is a terrible thing or incredibly awesome depending on context. For example, my longshot picks yesterday (note it was the 11 in the 6th at Cnl, I also had the 11 in the 8th and confused myself). Thus I can say, my picks yesterday looked like a complete sharknado (ie not good at all) until I got bailed out in the VA Derby. Big $2.50 profit on the day, but beats losing.

Have a good Sunday all! Going over to the track later and then out to dinner but as of now I know not where.

Guess you won't be opening an account at the Saratoga National Bank:

The Colt Account: The Colt Account is designed for young savers under the age of 18. This account has a nominal minimum opening deposit amount requirement. There are no service charges associated with this account.

Thoroughbred Savings: This basic savings account has a continual term, variable rate with a low minimum deposit amount.

Jockey’s Club / High Stakes / Triple Crown Money Market Accounts: These higher rate money market savings accounts are tiered, interest bearing accounts. There are minimum deposit requirements to open and maintain to avoid a monthly maintenance fee and earn interest.

Haven't heard any more about Trakus. Guess we'll find out Friday but given how state regs and oversight has put delays on things that were supposed to be done deals, I have no idea what is going to happen.

WiFi was running fine last year. I think I picked up a signal yesterday, but I wasn't really looking as things are still being set up for the meet.

I am disappointed to find out Carolina BBQ is not on track this year. Steve talks about why on Derby Trail. The pot roast sandwich was awesome. Hope to still see Steve around. Great guy. There will be some new food options again this year but I will assure you that the clam chowder place is still there and the mac and cheese guy will also be back.

Then there is this......

According to John Pricci, Trakus will not be functioning at Saratoga. Sounds like they are having some technical problems and don't want to put something out that isn't working right. You all know I argue with Mr. Pricci quite a bit but he's probably got the right info on this as I do know there was a press lunch today. He probably got his info from someone there and as I have heard nothing other than comments about Trakus being up at Belmont fall in the press, this seems right.

Time to head back soon, but coming back Friday for the open. Bit of a heatwave the next few days and still supposed to be 90 with possible thunderstorms Friday, but the weekend is predicted to be all but perfect right now, low 80s and sunny.

Maestro's last night for dinner. I don't know why, but it's not a favorite. Food very good, service excellent and waiters very knowledgable, but it's just not a place that would pop in my mind if someone asked me where to go. Just me I guess as I can easily recommend the place.

Going to Maestro's did allow a bit of a walk around downtown to see any changes. Circus has expanded and taken over what used to be Brindisi's. The old Borders Books building is now occupied by a non-retail business. The Adelphi is closed still for renovations. A new building is still under construction that will house at least a new book store and an icecream shop. But all in all much is still the same. Sadly the space where the Grey Gelding was is still empty. That is sad to me as it was such a nice space.

So time to get ready to go home. I'll keep you up to date though if I hear anything big. I'm thinking about running a contest. Whoever can guess what the press will complain about most this summer will win a prize. Rest assured they've already started......

I can tell you that this isn't true. I haven't tried it yet but I'd bet it's not even the best Italian in town. However, that said, the menu looks ok. The reviewers either love it or don't think it is anything special at all. Sounds like one of those places that has a strong following but you are either going to love it or hate it in general. Nothing wrong with that. If I'm over that way, I might give it a try. What I will say though is go to Prime if you haven't and then let me know what you think is better.

Prime is not overpriced and right in line with the quality of the food, service and location. Might be too much for your pocket, and frankly I can't do any more than one visit a meet. If I could I would though. Siro's is grossly overpriced and I will never eat there. Big difference.

Like I said, there are places up there that are very popular. The food is solid and you get just what you expect. There is nothing at all wrong in general with a place like Olde Bryan Inn or the type of place you describe. Thing is, I can get that pretty much anywhere. You like it, that's fine. Go there, enjoy yourself. That's what they are in business to do for you.

I'll say it again, the menu looked ok. But to call that the best food in town is not even close and I can say that without ever having gone there and know I'm right. There's a lot of very good Italian in the area and after seeing the thoughts of others and looking at the menu, I can think of others I've been to that would blow it away and for much the same price range. I've also heard of a few others in the area that I haven't gotten to yet that look better. I'm sorry but generally you are not going to find really high end stuff in a strip mall.

I agree with you. They see you coming, sorta like Christmas in August for them. Offering a lobster roll for lunch, $21. A 9 oz filet mignon for lunch, $44....the elite location, a golf club?

I learned, recently, after Belmont week, while staying another week, upstate on a farm in the Hudson River Valley ... The quiet communities of Rhinebeck and Red Hook are the two best kept culinary secrets in upstate NY.

While in Saratoga, I'll drive an hour and fifteen minutes south if I really want my evening to include fine dining--incredible food, excellent wait staff, and unpretentious prices set by CIA chefs/owners.

I've eaten at CIA and you simply can't miss there. Top chefs in the kitchen and service by the students whose future depends on how well they do. You'll never get that kind of combination at any other sort of place. Add your 2 and a half hours round trip in time and money and I'd say your prices are pretty even though. But anyone who is in that area and likes going out should definitely try one of their restaurants. It's been some time since I was there, but I believe the American was the top end, but they also had Italian and Asian and maybe one more.

And yes, the elite location is at the golf course. The Saratoga National course which appears to be quite nice. I don't golf but the landscaping there looks good to my eye. That is one of a few places Mr. Mazzone runs. He knows talent and he knows food and he has a nice room to work with. You question that location but not one proposed that is a grocery store strip mall?

Chianti would be #1 in my book. Maestro's does good Italian. Never been a top pick for me as I explained above, but it is very good. Limoncello, according to the wife, is also quite good. Haven't gotten to that one yet but I trust her on that and the menu looks great. There's also this family style place a few miles out of town. I wish I could remember its name but it was quite good and a lot of fun. Have to have a big group for that one though. There is a ton of good Italian places in that area so I'm sure there are others too and maybe even a couple I'm forgetting.

As I said above though, I have no problem with people who like a place like that. You go in, you know what you are going to get and it can be well made. But that's the problem as well. I look at the menu and it looks fine, but there's nothing on it I haven't seen before. I can go down the block from where I live and get what they have. If I'm going to go out and lay out the cash, I want the option for something different. I want exceptional ingrediants and different combinations. Now I admit sometimes high end places go too far in this respect, so there is a fine line there. But why when I'm on vacation do I want something that I can get any old Wednesday night?

And lest you think I'm a total snob, I love Taco Bell. It's total crap but I love it. Everything has its time and place. Saratoga is a special and fun place so one of the reasons I tell about these places and the other things going on is so that those visiting, maybe for the only time they will ever get the chance, can get an even greater level of enjoyment. But if someone says to me "Where can I go to get a burger" or something like that, I'll tell you that too. But saying a place like he cited is the best in town is an extreme stretch and I don't need to have gone there to say that I don't think he's right about that. His comparison of Prime to Siro's is all I need to know to be sure.

Interesting. Hadn't heard anything about that. Hope I didn't end up missing out.

One other thing that has changed is that they shut down the movie theatre in Wilton. There is supposed to be a new complex that is being built and I think it's right next to the new Price Chopper right off downtown but don't think it's going to be done soon. Some company named Bow Tie Cinemas or some such. May miss some of the summer films this year.

I have a new feature this year. I'm going to call it "F$%#in' NYRA". You see, every summer the press seems to gather in the aptly named press box, come to a consensus about what to complain about, and then proceded to all take turns complaining about those things. Now usually I think most of what they complain about is pretty stupid and the fact that the sound did work on opening day and it does look like the P5 will be instituted in a couple weeks with scratch rules included, according to Mr. Crist, I felt the press would be at a loss for issues, so I'm going to help them out. Here is my first issue.

Have a look at this picture below. I ran into this trying to go watch Talking Horses this morning. There is so little room between that pole and that seat that if you tried to sit there, you'd certainly feel a little like Ron Jeremy at work, one leg on either side of one big pole. Second, I could barely get down that aisle. Now I've got scrawny chicken legs, but what if I was a heavyset guy? I'd never be able to make it to my seat to watch the show. What this tells me is that NYRA management is sizist!!!!! Allowing this seat to exist means they don't care about fans who may be on the larger size. No, they only care about the beautiful people who can squeeze their perfect bodies between that seat and that pole. F%$#in NYRA!

We never lost power but that was a pretty violent storm. And yeah, I do have a flashlight. Little pocket sized guy in my bag since Sandy. I am prepared!

Much cooler already though should have scattered storms throughout the day, clearing near evening. That last part is very important for today I don't care if it rains. If it is wet enough, I just won't bet. 38 more days in the meet for that. No, tonight I have tickets for the NY-Penn Leauge A ball Tri City Valleycats at 7. Playing at their home, Joe Bruno Stadium (ugh), it is Star Wars/Comicon night. I have to see this!

Had Indian for dinner last night. Went back to Karavalli, which never seems to be full despte how good it is. Try new things people! Had the samosas, a must to start with, and Chicken Ammwala with garlic naan bread. I belive the wife had the Lamb Madras. Topped it off with a large bottle of Kingfisher. Yum.

A few picks, as long as races stay on their surfaces and the dirt doesn't get sloppy

Race 1: 4/5+6, 4+5
Race 3: 2+8
Race 5: 12/4+10, 10+12
Race 8: 12/3+7, 3+12

Bombs away on that last. I liked the 12 in his last 2. First time out was very good, last time not so much. Throw out the last. Inside post wrecked him.

Almost forgot, like My Happy Face in the CCA, but just watching that one. How could you not like a horse named My Happy Face?

About your view at Prime. In the city, you're accustomed to asphalt and buildings. Can't decide if I want to go over to the track today or not. I am such a wimp when the possiblity of getting my feet wet arises. I hate wet feet. Already been out and about this morning too. Been to CVS (twice) and Pricechopper. Tried to get the car washed. Don't go to the automated one on Washington St, O2 or some such. The windows seem clean but the car body almost looks worse. Waste o' cash. And did the annual clothes shopping mission. Finally got that navy blue blazer that is supposed to go with pretty much anything. Pretty much set now.

Didn't rain too much at all. Tonight was just perfect though. About 20 degrees cooler. Wish today's picks were as good

After day 2: $190 wagered, $330 returned, +$140

Hey, it's still +

We went to the ball game tonight. It was fun. Star Wars/Comicon night was kind of a bust though/ The 5'6" guy in the Darth Vader outfit wasn't doing it. Hot dogs were pretty good though but I'd skip the nachos. So I give you the Tri-City Valleycats at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium where the baseball is class A but the felonies are not.

Beautiful day. Busy one already. Had to go do some laundrey. We usually used Cudney's but they don't seem to be open on Sundays. I am assuming ownership must be very religious as being closed for one of the two days that are most convenient for people to come to your stores doesn't make much sense any other way. Used the Bubbles in the Congress STREET shopping center. I capitalize as half the ads I could find said it was on Congress Ave., which isn't too far away but is of course incorrect.

A few picks for today:

Race 1: 4/2+6, 2+4
Race 2: 2/7+10, 2+10
Race 7: 4/5+8, 4+8
Race 9: 2+3

We'll be a winner for the first weekend regardless, but still would like to pick at least one of these up!

First painful beat of the season. In race 2 I changed my mind about 2 on top so I went 10/2+7 and a 7+10 box. Never had the 7/2 in either iteration but that still hurt.10 holds on we have a near $400 exacta for $5....oh well, next case.

23-1 lone non speed does exactly what I expect him to in the 9th but I put him with the wrong one. One of those days....

Still up but could easily been up a lot more. Dinner at Limocello!

Nice and cool today and looks to be for the week to come. Highs right around 80 make for perfect summer weather. Looks to have been some light rain overnight but as dry as it's been, turf courses needed it.

Limoncello was pretty good, though Chianti is still best for Italian IMO. Had a Gnocchi Bolognese and the Salsiccia Rustica, which is sausage with potato, pepers and onions. Both were very good though I do like my Bolognese a little thicker. The wife had athe pear salad and the Ravioli Limoncello which is a cheese ravioli with a lemony cream sauce. She reallly liked hers.

Afterward we went to Circus Cafe for Sunday trivia night. Sadly we talked ourselves out of 2 right answers and ended up losing by one point. At least it wasn't to our arch nemesis, Magic Eightball. Next week a key player returns, so Pinger domination is coming.

Heading back home in a couple hours. Going to miss next weekend, but will keep on top of events. One pick for today:

Race 2: 1/6+7, 1+7

Back home. Traffic was a little much at times so I missed putting down today's play. Not a bad thing in the end though it was the 1 I wanted not the 1A so likely would have passed anyway. I did learn one thing on the way home when I stopped at the service plaza to use the restroom. 3 out of 4 Buddhist monks prefer Mo's Southwestern Grill. The other guy went for Pizzaria Uno.

Race 4: 5/3+6, 5+6 as long as the price is more than $40, otherwise pass.

Also some news to report. Syfy is running a shark marathon Saturday!!!! So if the races start to get you down tune into such classics as Sharktopus, Two Headed Shark Attack, Super Shark, and of course.....SHARKNADO!!!!! Hopefully today's pick will not be such a sharknado as my recent work.

Has anyone ever been to a brewpub in Glens Falls called "Cooper's Cave"? We have been going to Davidson's for several years but someone recently said we should try Cooper's Cave. I've seen mixed reviews on Yelp so looking for some info here if anyone knows.

BTW, I saw Finger Lakes for the first (and probably last) time last week. Lost a voucher in one of the betting machines when lightning struck. Got shut out of the 3rd. race but the bet I was about to make would have been a loser. Took about 20 minutes for the IT guy to come by and retrieve my voucher for me. Caught a $370 dime super in race 4 (paid $3,700 for a buck but since my bet had 210 combinations, I wheeled my top pick "Perfect Gratitude" 12/1 ML and 7/1 at post time over the remaining 7 horses in the field), I opted for the dimer. Horse broke dead last and was still last approaching the stretch looking way out of it and won by a neck in a stretch run that was nothing short of amazing. Watch the video if you can find it (race 4, July 18). FL reminded me a little of my local track, Penn National. We left after race 5. Stayed at the Best Western in Victor. Nice accommodations. Had great dinners all 3 nights. An Italian place called Otto Tomatto's was a real gem. PF Chang was better than the typical Chinese. And Chammps was awesome for a sports bar/pub. It wasn't intentional but we went on a Thursday (Thirsty Thursday for them with half priced drafts). I had 3 excellent brews for $2.50/pint and the food was quite good.

Did the wine trail Wednesday on Cayoga Lake. While Finger Lakes isn't known for good dry reds, we were able to find several excellent bottles at the 5 wineries we visited.

Will arrive in Saratoga Saturday, July 27 and be at the track Sunday. As for Saratoga restaurants, I agree that Chianti is probably the best in town although a little pricey. We were a little disappointed with Wheat Fields last year as it wasn't as good as it once was. Will probably have dinner at One Caroline while we're up. Love that place. Great bar, good jazz and excellent quality food. Will also try the sushi place near Hattie's for the first time.

We usually go to the Sushi/Thai place in Glens Falls (Siam Thai Sushi on Glen Street) and I usually order Thai and my wife and kids opt for the sushi. That's probably because I consider sushi to be a "lunch food".

In this vein, have either of you tried Phila Fusion? They have a lot of Thai on the menu. Was supposed to go there once and it didn't work out. Think I'll have to give it a try when I get back up there. I find that how good Wheatfields is depends on their seasonal specials. Sometimes they are great, sometimes pretty drab. I think I like what I've had up there in the off season more than what was served in the summer. One Caroline is better than its sister restaurant Mouzon House, but I have to always remind myself that you simply cannot get good Cajun/creole outside of Louisiana, so as long as you just think of it as an American restaurant, it's ok.

Never been to Phila Fusion. As for Wheat Fields, I think their problem is that they seem to be incapable of handling the bigger crowds during racing season. Despite having reservations, we've had to wait typically between 20-30 minutes more to be seated. When this happened last year and we saw that there were several empty tables in the dining room, we decided to scratch Wheat Fields from our annual "to do" list. Also the quality of their homemade pasta seems to have gone down a few notches. Same for some of their sauces, the scampi in particular which was flavorless. As for One Caroline, while they feature many Cajun style dishes, I usually opt for the ones of French origin and have not been disappointed. Their charcuterie platter was outstanding as an appetizer.

Sorry, Meant to write about this and forgot. There are very few construction projects going on except for the eternal Albany patronage projects. So just for a couple miles right as you come into the Albany area they are still rebuilding the roads, but otherwise smooth sailing.

Race 6: 3/1+8 I'll take either 1 or 1A in that slot.

In racing related news, Monmouth is once again having it's Haskell Day contest. Assume it will be picking every race on the card W/P as it has been the last several years. First prize is tickets to the BC I believe. I'll post and do a $2 playalong on my selections. Must say that the Jim Dandy seems more intriguing to me than the Haskell this year. Here's hoping someone calls it the Eddie Haskell in the press again. That was fun. Thank god for interns!

A word of caution to all coming here to Saratoga. The state police are out IN FORCE and ticketing speeders. A few cars passed me on the Thruway and sure enough I saw them stopped a few miles ahead getting speeding tickets. I usually set the cruise control at 75 in the 65 MPH zones but I suggest 70 just to be sure.

Quite excited that cj will be with us this year to show attendees the TimeformUS product he is part of. I have signed up on the site and looked at the free cards. Must say the VA Derby card they put out did help me settle my mind on that bet which, by a nose, was a winner. Makes me wonder though if they might have hit on the "Moneyball" equivalent for horseplaying. Very similar in that they are exploiting an undervalued aspect of the game. Beyer gave us the batting average, but this product could be giving us the OPS.

Got one play today, late.

Race 9: 2/5+8, 2+8

The John's Call is a great race today as well, 13f, a race at the longer side of the middle distance but quite long by American standards. I'll try to remember to turn the video on in a couple hours.

Made it back home in record time. I guess Wednesday traffic going south is the key. Saw more speeders getting ticketed. State Troopers hiding in all of the turnarounds on the Northway median.

And now for a food tip. A new pizza joint ("Pizza 7" at 7 Caroline St.) has got to be the best lunch value in a very long time. For $4.28 (don't have a clue how they arrived at that price) you get 2 slices and a can of soda (it's the "lunch special"). I thought it was only for a plain slice until the girl behind the counter explained that it's ANY variety they make (and they make quite a few really good ones). I got a white broccoli and a fresh tomato, basil and spinach (yeah I went with the "healthy" option). If you like New York pizza, this place has it nailed! Perfect crust from first bite to last, good cheese and just about any topping you could imagine. Buffalo chicken, ham and pineapple, etc. We were all impressed. After dropping $50-$80 on some lunches earlier in the week, the 4 of us dined for $20 including tip today before heading home.

On my way back up for the weekend. Beautiful morning. Fair amount of traffic though not seeing as many troopers on the road. In fact I don't think I've seen any as the only pull over I saw may well have been by the ones that police the semis. Didn't at all look like a normal unmarked. In no big rush though as will get there in plenty of time.

Only one play today going for a triple

Race 4: 2+5/1+3+6 in some combination TBD.

If you look on Paulick you can see the new Whitney viewing stand at the training track. Looks nice but I was wondering how often Marylou would be placed on view there (rimshot). Ok bad joke. It's still early.

Well, close but no banana on the pick. So I had to get my own bananas at Price Chopper. Lucky I did as I saw the signs saying Broadway is to be closed tonight at 7:30 for the "parade" leading to the big ice cream social in Congress Park. I'm skipping that for dinner at Il Forno. They have those wonderful appetizers of the eggplant lightly breaded wrapped around ricotta and baked in marinera sauce. I love those things!

Big race tomorrow. Not going to bet it for real, but it is part of a free NHC contest, so I'll do my $2 W/P. My early picks look chalky and not sure I can get away from Fort Larned in this one. That's ok though as I've seen a few of these go very chalky. Also tomorrow there is a giveaway of a "150 years of Saratoga" poster by PEB. Frankly I don't like his stuff, but this poster though kind of strange is at least not borderline (or over) racist as a few of his can be. His last Saratoga poster may bear the distinction of being the only giveaway no one wanted, and I mean no one. There were stacks of them lying around when it was over. It was pretty bad.

Looks like another perfect day in the offing. Little rain overnight and still a bit overcast but that should burn off soon. Check that still a bit of drizzle right now.

Big day today at the track. Given the crowd size yesterday, today could be huge. Or is that huuuuuuugggggggeeee-ah? He's evidently produced several more commercials in which he's drunk and ranting and they are on every 5 minutes. Got to say if you ever need to buy a car in the area, I'd go with DePaula.

Il Forno was packed last night. Had the eggplant involotini as described above and the lasagna. That was huge (-ah) The wife had a veal rolotini. Flourless chocolate cake to finish. Very good and the price is also quite reasonable. The menu is not set up for the primi/secundi as the portions are large so pick what you like best and go with it.

The parade was pretty much starting right by the restaurant. Looked like most the city turned out. Was afraid I wouldn't get a parking spot, but found one not to far away. The apartments that burned earlier in the week are right there as well. As I looked at them from the front they didn't look so bad, but the backs of the buildings are gone. It's amazing they all got out ok.

A few picks today. Going for it a bit at the Spa. Need to turn my luck around

Pretty much busted out yesterday. Heading home later today so when I get back up, will refund the account and start from scratch. As ever, Saratoga is a cruel mistress. At least it was one of the nicest days weatherwise I've seen up here.

Stopped by Brook Tavern on the way home yesterday for a couple drinks. Still looks much the same as it did last year when it was under different management (not the pizza place as Steve Crist had said in one of his blogs, that had been gone for a couple years). Pretty good sized crowd. The folks who own the Wishing Well now run the place so perhaps they will be able to overcome the issues the spot had the last couple years. Haven't had the food, but been told it's ok, though the menu is pretty basic.

Small but tough field in today's feature, but should be much the way home by then.

About Saratoga being a cruel mistress. It's been exceptionally tough on me this year adter having a really nice last 2 years, but it's early.I usually will cash about 40% of the exacta tickets I play and 25% will be with my top 2 contenders.I've cashed 2 of my last 22 plays, both being with the top contender though. The 2nd places are missing, the longshots are busting me when I do win.I had 3 winners yesterday and 1 exacta in 6 plays. So hopefully the tide is turning for the better!Anyway thanks man!

Rod

I tell you I nailed the very first race of the meet and thought "maybe this year" and haven't hit another since. Granted I skip a lot of races and don't play if the exacta I like pays less than $40, but still I've had a couple that just kicked me you know where, especially that $400 exacta that got away from me at the wire. Well, that's how it goes. Still up for the year thanks to Black Onyx, but sure would like a couple more like that to come along.

Just got home a bit ago. Between the rain bursts and the traffic it was a good 5 hour trip. Sopped by the track for a few minutes before I left. Saw Funny Cide in the paddock. He looks well for a 13 year old and is still as cantankerous as ever. Ran into Maggie and happy to report her knee is much better after getting kicked a few weeks ago. Also there was an autograph signing today for the PDJF and Ramon was there as he always has been for those events. Despite his injury and the fact he hasn't taken a dime to help with his injuries, he's still out there helping guys that are far less fortunate than him. He and his wife are really good people.

the only race of the day that i was going to play at the Spa today was the last, i was waiting for ELEVEN BRAVO to come back and run in an easy spot like this one. i was looking for 9/2 and he was 7/2 and then became favorite. i didn't put any money in my pocket but i feel like i just hit a homerun!

Got back in town yesterday afternoon. Watched the end of the Battle of Saratoga handicapping contest. The winner jumped out early on day one beutiful the field closed on him in day two and at one point he'd fallen out of first, but he rerallied late and took the prize. There was a reception in the evening at the Post, and despite the rain most came. Played a P3 at Del Mar while I was there and was out after the first, beat a nose. No luck at all lately.

Dinner last night, long last, at Phila Fusion. It was really good. Huge menu with all kinds of Asian dishes. Very hard to pick. I settled on the crab Rangoon to start, which was delicious with crab cheese and one sort of sauce inside a fried dumpling. Then I had the crispy chicken basil, which is just what it sounds like along with peppers and onions. A little spicy but a lot good.

This morning is humid and overcast. Looks like a rain day. Was thinking about going over to the F-T pavilion for the Hall of Fame ceremonies. See how the weather is. Have a couple picks today in the 5th, 6th and 10th but I'm keeping them to myself. Have to reverse the curse.

Off the turf today. That cancels two of my three plays, but will still go ahead with the third. The feature today looked small but very competitive before coming off. Now it just looks likely small. Do love the fact that they are once again running the two miler today!

OTM Al
08-09-2013, 07:55 PM
And the third got cancelled as well as my key horse scratched. Well, didn't lose anything. Relaxed a little and worked a little instead.

Ah, and dinner tonight at Chianti. Just fabulous. Started with a variant on my favorite eggplant appetizer, progressed to a penne in a vodka sauce with bits of sausage and then a osso buco for the main entree. Perfectly cooked, didn't even need to use the knife to take it off the bone. Finished up with an incredible desert, semifreddo mascarpone e ciocciolato. It is a frozen cheese mouse with raisins in it drizzled with chocolate. Heavenly. The wife had a pasta special, a lamb based ragu over penne. It looked fantastic as well as did things going to other tables. Donna Brothers came in when we were almost finished and was seated next to us.

Best Italian in town I still think, but for those that doubted, I have an appointment with Mama Mia's next week. If it really is better it will give me great enjoyment to say I'm wrong.

Hoping for better weather tomorrow. Humidity at least seems to be dropping already. Solid card tomorrow, but I only see two races I want to play, 4 and 6. The Sheppard horse is my key in the 4th, so no doubt the price will fall below ML. Going to try to beat Pletcher in the 6th, but being a baby race it may be tough. Perhaps I'll go shopping in the morning as well. Want to go to the Jos A Bank and see if they have a blazer style I've wanted for a while, light grey, not sure if herring bone is the right would for the fabric, but I'll know it when I see it. Sinatra was wearing exactly the style in Ocean's Eleven, which I caught the other night.

Steve McQueen is the feature star on TMC tonight, so got that covered.

Loving the 5 in the 8th today.

Thought I did this, I meant the 3 who is 5-1 on the ML. Glad I don't go to the window anymore as I've done this more than once in the past. Another good reason to always play on a mobile device. Now watch the 5 win to spite me....

OTM Al
08-11-2013, 09:10 AM
If the 5 would have won at least I would have gotten a few bucks on a P3. Played 2 of them yesterday and went 2/3 on both. So much for a fresh start.

Got to be in the paddock yesterday. I love this first picture though it is harder to see in the picture than in real life. One real problem with the cell phone camera. This is "The Chief" watching a race from the paddock. Normal mortals get a bench to sit on. The Chief is brought a chair.

OTM Al
08-11-2013, 09:11 AM
And then there was the main reason for being in the paddock yesterday. He was a very popular boy.

OTM Al
08-11-2013, 09:26 AM
So again a big 0 on the day. Too bad I have to go back home today as we have both of the mid seaon 2yo stakes on the card. Also today we have the Fourstardave bobble head giveaway. Should be popular as there hasn't been a bobblehead for a while.

Loads of people in the paddock yesterday for Wise Dan. It was nice to see both Dan Silver and Erich Zimney in town for the day. Both good guys moving up in the racing world. Also saw Vic Zast. Anyone read his blog? Good old Vic, always something snarky and usually misinformed to say each and every day. Last year on social media day, he approached the NYRA booth and asked what exactly is this social media. Incredulous, one of the NYRA web people told him his blog was social media. I like that story.

Nothing fancy for dinner last night. Have had a nasty headache since last night. Fall allergy season seems to be upon us. Just ordered in from Pizza 7 on Caroline. Not bad and much better than the others in the area we had last year. The crust is a little bready, but not soggy, and the ingredients were very fresh and it was not greasy at all. May have to have another slice or two before I head back!

Next week starts the annual get together. I'll be driving back up Wednesday morning and should be here well before 11am, but if I am not at the Big Red Spring by 11, just hang loose. I will be there soon. If I can get out of the house by 6, I should make it easy but you never know what traffic may bring. Just the other day they had all the lanes closed on the thruway north of here due to a big accident.

They even made sure his blaze and socks were right and made sure the owner and trainer were part of it. Even gave him number 8 for his 8 years of wins. Figured he'd be popular.

A favorite event tomorrow night with Jockey Karaoke at the raceway nightclub. Have to miss it this year but can't imagine anyone can top Ronnie Ebanks from last year. Worth seeing if you are in town and money goes to a worthy cause.

I miss Sheepshead Bay and all the great seafood restaurants like Jean's, Joe's Clam Bar, Randazzo's and of course Lundy's. I remember getting 3 lobsters for $5 at Jordan's Lobster Dock way back in the 80s. And clams for 60 cents a dozen with 25 cent beers at Lundy's. Those were the days. Manhattan Beach was always our beach of choice compared to Brighton and Coney Island.

Randazzo's is still good and we go to Jordan's whenever we go to the movies. Nice fish sandwich and a cup of chowder. The rest has changed quite a bit. Several Russian restaurants in there now. Can get good Italian at Maria's or Il Fornetto, which used to be a nice OTB when we had those. Good Turkish place too that is pretty new. Lundy's is a grocery store now sadly. Would have loved to seen it back when.

Another absolutely perfect day with clear skys and temps in the mid 70s. Yesterday was actually almost cold! I did wear a jacket last night. The early crew yesterday included Track Collector, badcompany, and lsosa54 with a quick drive by by sam i am, who was having family day in the grandstand. Today we are back at our regular spot in the Festival Tent.

Last night I had dinner at Mama Mia's with a group of friends as a thanks for "Parking Guy Steve". He is a good guy to know! We started with clams oreganata and a spicy calamari salad. I do like clams made that way and these were good. Not a calamari fan but one of the guys evidently loved it and ate almost a full plate. For the entree I got the penne alla Mama Mia's as I figured if it was their named dish then it should be good. It was a penne in a marinara sauce with sausage and mushrooms and some fresh mozerella melted over the top. It was ok, but expected more out of a named dish. Perhaps should have gotten the ravioli special which half of the party did have and said it was good. It was a vodka sauce with a aged mozerella filling. The veal was also judged good but the carbonara sauce for another was kinda runny, not a good thing. The place is ok, the prices aren't bad. It's the kind of place I've been in many times. You'll get a good meal, but it isn't memorable. It was crowded resulting in service being pretty slow. I will say their pizzas looked really good, so I would be willing to go back to try one, but otherwise probably not.

Expect a bigger crowd today. Have a couple early picks and one late, though have early reservations for Prime tonight, so will be long gone before that one goes off. Going to also try to go over to see Andy's show tonight.

Had a look already at the Arlington Million card. I think the US horses have a very good shot in all but the Million. Really don't think Little Mike will be able to steal it this year, but Dark Cove has a legit shot in the Leger with Dandino being strong competition, Marketing Mix is on par as well with the Euros of which I like Dank the best. Hunter's Light, The Apache and Grandeur all look strong in the Million as Little Mike will not get the free lead this year. Do not like the invaders in the Secretariat at all.

Few more in the croud yesterday. New arrivals include GatetoWire, joeyp, mabred, Ted Craven, Ted's mom (who has a handle but can't remember Canadagoose or something like that I think), and MikeB (not sure if I got that handle correct but phonetically ok anyway). No luck for me yet. Have very little for today so may try a few small P3s as many faves seem like standouts today. Looks like a near carbon copy of yesterday outside and you can't go wrong with that.

Last night was dinner at Prime. There just is none better. Started with lobster stuffed clams. This was exceptional. I had a Kansas City strip steak and the wife had a veal parma that looked big enough to serve 3. She definitely has lunch for today. Got the jalapeno cream corn and cream spinich as sides. Finished with their cheesecake which is the best cheesecake I have ever had. There's lots of things on that desert menu that look good, but there is no question about saving a little room for that. Best. Restaurant. In. Town. It's not close.

Dinner was early so I just missed seeing my 10-1 ML shot miss by a neck in the 10th.....After a bit of digestion, we headed down to the Parting Glass for Andy's radio show. Good guests highlighted by Bill Mott and NYRA CEO Chris Kay [sorry cj :) ] Andy has that sports radio read down and is really quite good at interviews in that he gets the guest to talk rather than asking things that can be answered yes/no. Then home to sleep like a rock

Tonight we're going to try to do racino night. Opening night at Remington, which I rather like, so time to do some studying!

More new arrivals today including Grits, Silver Sow, Zaf and crew, TeacherDan, and some guy that goes by cj. Another beautiful day and true to form I was 2/3 in all P3s I played today. Andy Serling came by again to say hi as well.

The true highlight of the day though was racino Friday. Bubbles was able to join us there as he's a working man during the day. I'm happy to say I at least finally hit one at Remington having my 10-1 ML that actually did go off 10-1 (perhaps a first for Remington) just miss the win but had him under as well. The sad thing was by the time the race was off the payoff had plumetted to all of $15. Huge 37.50 return there all told.

But that doesn't tell the true tale of the night. About 9:30 they put up some harness track called Hazel Park and words are hard pressed to describe their on air handicapper, Marty. He looked like when Will Ferrell did Harry Caray and he showed his pick on a piece of paper he'd drawn the number on with a pen. We are pretty sure he did not have the number 6 available. So here;s to Marty, you made our night just a little bit brighter.

Hey they have live video on the web!

Another Alabama day come and gone. If memory serves, just one new arrival but an important one as PA joined us. Once again he provided a nice spread of wraps, tortellini salad and cookies. Of course I forgot he was doing it Saturday this year so I'd already gotten myself a trough of the Montreal Meat Poutine. Sliced meat, gravy and cheese curd over freshly cooked fries. That was probably about 5000 calories......

Speaking of track food I was very impressed the other day with Mo's Southwestern Grill. I got the nachos which are either chicken or beef, your choice, and all kinds of other goodness. I thought when I saw the $10 tag I'd be overpaying for chips and goo in a cardboard box, but this thing was massive. It felt heavy as I carried it back. They have burritos as well for the same price that could probably feed two.

Cj gave a little seminar yesterday as well and talked about the races if he saw something interesting. The 14-1 he gave out was plenty interesting and many cashed, though I managed to screw that up too....sigh. Not playing today and may take the rest of the meet off. At least I lost the first leg of my P3 at Arlington yesterday and didn't lose that one by DQ.

Couldn't do the racino again last night but sounds like those that went had fun. Hanging out with friends, old and new, is the best part of this meet for me. The last two weeks, Travers included, always seem to dull. Hope to see a those of you get back next year that couldn't make it this year. You were in our thoughts.

So to the question I'm always asked, dinner last night. We were going to try the new Merry Monk, a Belgian restaurant, but they were full up. We'll do that next week. So rule number one came into effect. When original choice is full, go to Karavalli. I'll say it again, people are really missing out not going to this place. Indian food is fantastic and they do it really well. Last night I tried the Chicken Makhanni, which is similar to the Tikki Masala, but the sauce is spiced to your selection and also has read pepper slices in it. Outstanding. Also had the samosas and garlic naan, which are required. The wife had a shish kebab that smelled incredible. I just can't recommend the p,ace enough as not only is the food great, but the price is very reasonable.

So here I sit doing laundry as the day begins. A little overcast but should burn off and be another perfect day. Hat giveaway today. It looks sharp. Black with the 150th logo on it. Only can stay for a race or two as it is back to work tomorrow. The real world beckons.

Yeah, I was betting in Albany and in Newark! Appreciate the chance to do the demo for you guys. I hope to be there much longer next year, and if so I'll be able to do a better set up. I'm thinking of even trying to start out the rent a house for a week or two program if there is any interest.

Horse racing royalty betting in EWR.....priceless

Renting out a house for 2 weeks is epic.....if you do your homework a 6 bed house for under 2k for 2 weeks is very possible....

Instead of thinking about Saratoga I wonder how much a house in the Lexington area is for the October or april

Walk around money when compared to Saratoga. But too, people in Lexington do not leave and rent their homes out for three weeks each Spring and Fall for Keeneland's meets, as homeowners do in Saratoga each mid July to Labor Day. Totally different mindset, and I say this because I've had a home there.

..... About the gathering. I thank Al and PA, as always. Al you work on this all year long almost. Thank you so much. I enjoy my time each year with all of you, gentlemen, and Barb. Each of you are a joy, a great pleasure to be with. Smiles and fun abound when winners are hit! I've taken some photos, edited and cropped them and will get them to PA as soon as possible.

Time to go home. The southbound lanes await. And I miss "Sunny". He called me last night, "mom, when will you be home?" <3 <3 <3

Thank you all, again. :)

I wrote this very early in the morning, so I neglected to mention our classy and spunky lady from the south GRITS, just so you know this gathering is not limited just to the guys.

That might be difficult. We were in the $3.5K range for 9 days. Of course we were within walking distance of the track.

Got back in town last night. Drove to work in the morning so I could start up directly. That was an adventure. Driving in Manhattan is not fun and the backup from the GWB still cost me half an hour when trying to get up 87.

Was going to go to the Travers Festival party last night but that fell through. Good thing it did as a deluge hit right about the time it was supposed to start. Instead had dinner at Brook Tavern. To be honest, it's ok, but liked the restaurant that was there the last couple years much much better. We had the white bean humus dip to start, and that was pretty tasty, but very little on the menu appealed, so I just got their burger, which was nothing special. The wife had the Thursday special fried chicken which looked good, but it came with potato salad and cole slaw, two things I despise, so that was out. Prices are pretty good, but menu small and kind of bland.

Clear skies this morning and both today and tomorrow look like perfect days, sunny with a high of 78. Going to go shopping this morning I think. Still haven't tried to find that jacket I want yet and have a buch of coupons from Banana Republic that I need to use as well. Got picks today in the 1st and 10th only, but think I'll make a close study to the Timeform and watch the odds a bit as well.

Al, have fun. Enjoy the racing, the shopping, the great weekend!!! And, of course, dine well. I'm kinda glad I'm home now and not in the huge crowd tomorrow. Gotta get busy downloading my TimeformUS and my Bris sheets. Good luck! ;)

Another perfect day in the making. It's bright, clear and chilly this morning. The annual Running of the Morons has gone off. They were jummping over the fences, crawling under turnstiles, literally running out of thier shoes, and running over each other. A broken arm and a deep cut have already been reported. This is something NYRA really needs to put an end to before an injury becomes life threatening.

Last night was good fun. First I have to say I actually hit a race yesterday! Wasn't great but bet about $100 yeaterday and manageged to get all but about $3 back, so a vast improvement. Have a few picks today. Just need one.....While that race was running in fact, we were sitting at the clubhouse for Saratoga Polo. This was a lot of fun and I'd been trying to get there for several years now. Last time we tried it rained 5 minutes after we got there and it was cancelled, but this time we got a lovely night and front row seats.

Afterward we went into town to have a light dinner. Got a pizza at Max London's. We got the sausage pizza. Very good sausage. Place is a little loud and not a fan of the modernist look of the place, but I understand they have done some revamping on the menu and it has improved a bit.

We walked a bit afterward. The streets were jammed with people staring at the kind of acts I'm used to walking past in Manhattan. At least no one seemed to be picking pockets of the tourists....We then stopped in the new bookstore. Got a neat little poster of the city of Saratoga around 1889 and a copy of 150 Years of Racing in Saratoga by Allan Carter and Mike Kane. Not a long book but it looks fun as they tried to find some of the lesser known, but no less interesting, tales of racing in Saratoga. I'll let you know what I think.

What a day. Don't know attendance but that place was as full as I've seen it. My picks were awful but did get a thrill today as I was in the winner's circle during the Travers and King's Bishop as designated guard for Marylou's chair. Quite a production that. She's such a wonderful and gracious person with a smile and a hello for everyone. Said hello tho the buglers as well as I wondered who was going to be playing tomorrow......Followed Mr. Phipps out when it was time to make the breakout.

Early I caught up with a friend, who those in the tent on Saturday will remember me saying "Hey I know the guy that owns that horse" when he won by a nose at 23-1. I knew he went $200 W/P on it but then he told me he had the exacta for $50 and the tri a few times as well. Talk about cleaning up. Horse is running again tomorrow in a resticted stakes. Don't see him doing much there but who knows.

Not going out tonight. It was slammed last night and will be worse tonight. Going to go to a party instead. Should be fun. Then back home tomorrow and back to work Monday.

Back in town for the final weekend. Sadly the weather is no where near as nice as when I left. Very wet and humid out and the sky looks to add to the moisture. Track looked pretty wet coming in so guessing very limited turf today. Beats being at work though. Going to try to catch up with jdhanover later today as well. Looking forward to dinner tonight at the Merry Monk as well. Looks fun.

Damn Al. I'm in story telling mode now. However, I usually open with letting people know it was absolutely far and away the best week we've ever had weather wise. That week that crossed over with PA was simply magnificent, warm, but not hot and humid and zero precip.

I tell people about the Spa in terms of the area too, as in:

"This place is not simply a racetrack. It is one of the slices of heaven on earth. There are other places in North America just as majestic (Bar Harbor, Me, Williamsburg, Va, Big Sur, Ca, NOTL, On), but this fits on the short list.

All of my posse are always eager to return next year until they're looking up- not out.

Back home from dinner. Much cooler now and comfortable. Still simply cannot win here so probably no more betting next two days. Did mange to connect with jdhanover for a little bit and I very much enjoyed meeting him. Was intending to stop back by but ended up going home early and taking a nap. Just wiped out from the last week. Thank goodness it was probably the easiest and quickest trip up of the whole summer.

Went to the Merry Monk as planned. It's still new so not much in decor and seemed a little understaffed, but have no complaints. We started with the Flammkuchen, which is kind of like a little flatbread pizza. We both had the Carbonnades Flamande which is a beef stew over mashed potato. That was very good. Didn't try desert or have any mussels so will have to go back. They also have a large beer selection. I wasn't totally happy with the one I picked, but that was on me.

Giveaway day tomorrow and I've been drafted to help. It is a very nice stein with pictures of the horse of each decade for the 150 years which the Museum assisted the NYRA staff putting together. I'm sure Zast will find something snarky to say. For the first time this year someone finally called him out and ended with the line "Luckily, I don't think many people pay any attention to you." At least the bitching and moaning from the press has been at a minimum this year.

Gray and humid again today. Guess it was due though given how beautiful it had been here since opening day. Think I'm going to have to go over to Prime at some point tonight and sit out on the deck (much less expensive dining option) and have a piece of cheesecake. I love cheesecake and they have the best I've ever had.

It's always been fun to meet up with board members. I'm glad the restraunt recommendation was good. Did want to come back later in the day but was just shot. Went home and had a nice and much needed nap. Still a little out of it today. Went over and lent a hand for a bit this morning. It was quite calm looking before the spinners attacked.

OTM Al
09-01-2013, 03:14 PM
But the spinners attacked in force. Expect a big number today. Lines were really long, partly because they were trying to carry away so many that they were dropping them and stopping up the lines. I don't get it. They are a nice item at least but do you need 20? And the people dropping and breaking the things because they had too many and then trying to get a replacement. In a store where more can br brought in, maybe this would be the right thing to do, but with a limited number and people coming later expecting one, you can't give replacements. A no win situation.

It would have been nice if the people buying 20 of the things if they would have given their $60 to the TRF people who were the charity of the day set up by the silks room. For a little less than that $60 I got a picture of Riva Ridge, a nice pen like the one I got at the TRF benefit I went to a couple years ago, a keychain that has the horse name on it like on their halters (I got Banker's Jet 106:28-22-15) and my new little buddy, Phantom on Tour. Gave them $80 for it which seemed to surprise the lady there, which is a bit sad in a way.

The thing for me is the way I play my bets just one good exacta or two decent ones and I'm right around even. I got one last bet out. Late P4. Doing this from memory but essentially

1,4/1,4,9/1,7/1,2,5,7,10

I usually would give my donation to one of the retirement organizations early in the meet for good karma but hadn't seen them until today. Late karma would be better than none at all. I would have bought one of their sponsorships but they were a little too much for me. If they had $100 ones like Old Friends does I would have gotten one too, but their lowest is $250. Seems a little high for most people but $100 level might get a lot more donations.

Last day. Finishing the packing but won't be able to go until this evening. Been rainy for a couple hours so expect no turf and a sloppy mess. Definitely not betting but going to pull for Wired Bryan in the Hopeful.

All over now. Got home about 11 pm last night. Traffic was amazingly light. Guess everyone got in a traffic jam earlier in their rush to get home.

It's always great to see old friends and meet a few new ones. And those of you who couldn't be with us, do come next year if you can. Very sad news about John passing. He will be missed.

The most refreshing part of the meet was the near lack of griping by the press who often seem to feel the need to bring misery where none is called for. The one exception of course was Vic "He puts the ass in" Zast, who generally has nothing good to say. His diary at the Blood Horse the last couple days shows he's completely checked out and has been for some time. Guy just writes what he wants and doesn't bother check a thing. Like this beauty from Woodward day

"Alpha had the pace to itself and won the $750,000 Woodward Stakes (gr. I) from gate to window, outlasting Flat Out, the choice of the guy who wagered Marylou Whitney and John Hendrickson’s $15,000."

The "guy's" name was Mary Burns. Her name was made available days in advance and she was on TV, but guess Ast had no time for that.

He had another great one yesterday about the cancelled plan to have people form 150 on the track and take a picture. He wrote that it happened. It was cancelled early in the day but Vic didn't bother and wrote that it happened. When he was told he was wrong, he actually figured out how to use that social media thing and reply

"Photo shoot wasn't held, toga. Piece went in before I could learn that someone chickened out or the public didn't show enough interest or, heavens forbid, that there was money to be made with a 12th race and none to be made in honoring the fans."

Of course he did have time to write about the results hours later but not find out any facts regarding the story....And then there was the time he referred to the Pink Sheet handicappers as "Ass-perts". I know one of those guys. Don't mess with my friends Ast, especially when you aren't putting your fat one on the line every day.

Speaking of former writers, I felt bad for John DaSilva. He did the Capitol OTB picks on their feed between races, the $10,000 Bankroll Challenge. John is a really nice guy, but watching him in the last couple weeks was painful. I think he had a worse meet than me and had tapped out completely with 10 cent supers on Sunday. There was a shot of the desk they use at the end of the card and when they went to it the chair was empty. Kinda summed it up. Buck up John, the meet is a bear and at least it wasn't your money...though I have a feeling the way he was looking he parted with a bit of that too.

In other bad news, Sam the Bugler still seems to have a job.

But overall it was a great meet. Other than the first couple and last couple days you couldn't ask for more beautiful weather. A lot of construction going on in town so expect the experience to be even better next year...though I think I'll take a break for a while before that comes around. Sure there will be plenty of changes in the days to come.

Where's all the snow!?!

On the serious side since I have already had inquiries, I don't know anything for sure about this summer yet. Nothing has been mailed out because, I assume, of the proposed admission changes. The stakes schedule isn't set yet as far as I can tell either. So we are in limbo. As soon as I find anything out I'll post what I know here. Hopefully it is sooner rather than later, but given what has been said, it may not be until March if the holdup is what I think it is. Thanks again Mr. Cuomo. I will be voting against you no matter who is running.

We'll have tables Thursday - Sunday, August 14 - 17. I couldn't get additional tables for Friday (sold out) but we'll try to accommodate folks as much as possible. The past several years, it has been pretty much a merged group anyway.
