I see YR is back trying some longer distances and horsemen seem to be on board. At least they're trying some things.

They've been there and done that....And that's a shame, because they have great trainers, a nice menu of horses, and great drivers, and a fantastic purse schedule to boot....

So what is wrong ?....Maybe it's that Harness Racing has had it's time.in NYC...I dunno...?

For me Personally tho, I can't stand 1/2-Mile track racing any longer and that is why I don't play there any longer...Sad, because Yonkers and Roosevelt Raceways were my my home track(s) for so many years before M1 burst onto the scene...

I like the longer raceways, the 5/8s and 1-Milers....YR with their terrific features would be my track of choice if it were a bigger configuration.... I no longer have the patience to wait for a gem or two to pop up on a daily basis, as I tend to nod off while waiting, so I no longer bother with the place....And, that doesn't sit too well with me either....

What if they staggered the gate with the gate slanting ahead from the outside?

What if they went 6 across and the 7 and 8 went from 2nd tier...

Untimed start from the center of stretch...

All futile in my opinion best horses and drivers and yr and Pocono and piss handle......meadowlands has garbage horses and handles waaaaaaaaay over a million a night......

That's why in 20 years the M will be the only harness track left....

How about run each horse individually? Let horse 1 go, wait 15 or 20 seconds, let horse 2 go and so on and so forth and get each horse's final time and pay off the fastest time as the winner, 2nd fastest time as the place horse, etc. This way, every horse will get to save ground on all 4 turns and the best horse will surely win. ;)

I'd like to see the handicap races like in NZ with no starting gate. Just start the best horses a bit behind the others and roll, and see what happens.

Last night, for the second week in a row, no one hit the 50 cent YR Pick 5 on a night when there was a USTA $10,000 guaranteed pool in effect. This resulted in a carryover of just over $7,500, as they just cleared the guarantee at about $10,130 in actual handle.

Last week, the P5 pool on the night following the carryover was around $21,000. As similar figure should be reached tomorrow night.

I only thing I would want Yonkers to do and would probably make a lot of people happy would be to move the finish line back to it original spot. This would avoid the quick run into the first turn. Unfortunately, the casino being in it current location prevents that. All of the racing related thing like the press box and such is in the grandstand which is all at the current finish line and past it. If they move the line back it would cause an even worse angle on the simulcast feed. So sadly that wont be happening unless Yonkers management would be willing to built a structure on top on of the casino to house the announcer and the cameras and such.

This, along with alternatives to the standard one-mile distance, was tried in the late 80s/early 90s. It didn't make much difference. The value at the Meadowlands is just radically better than any half-mile track in the country.
