Not sure if you're looking for free keys or not but you might consider Microsoft's free AV offering - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security-essentials-download

Knave,

I didn't know they had one! Thanks.

I did know (and maybe some people don't) that you can call Microsoft when you have a virus and they will walk you through removing it for free! I did this about 3 years ago and was shocked.

They obviously do not advertise this service our else their phones would ring off the hook.

Agree with the recs on MS Security Essentials as well as AVG, I run one or the other on my surfing boxes. Strongly recommend adding Malwarebytes alongside too whatever you choose, well worth the $15 or whatever it is for a lifetime license seat.

I have posted on this topic before, but I will post it again: you can't trust recommendations from others because it's just anecdotal evidence. How many people have tested multiple different AV programs in a lab setting to see which ones really work? Safe bet to say "none". While AV lab tests aren't perfect, they should give a better sense of what's good and what is not.

Links: AV-TEST (http://www.av-test.org/en/home/); AV-COMPARATIVES (http://www.av-comparatives.org/)

Also, do not run multiple AV programs if they are running in the background. Multiple programs that will scan on-demand are fine, but you don't want background process conflicts between AV programs.

One last thing -- AV and anti-spyware programs don't necessarily scan for the same stuff so you should have one of each.

If you want a light weight scanner, you can try Immunet Free (http://www.immunet.com/main/index.html)

It never downloads virus signatures as they are stored on the cloud.
