Got a rather disturbing call from Key Bank regarding my debit card. They wanted me to call back asking if I made a few transactions that were in question. There were two charges and two credits to an online store called SaltLife.com. Weird that they credited the charges. There was also one for 450.00 to Walmart.com that was blocked thank God.

The reason I post this here is this occurred shortly after opening a betting account with DRF. They actually wanted direct access to our checking account which I wasn't about to do. I'm not saying that this is where the leak occurred but it's pretty damn odd. Key Bank shut the card down and I will be getting a new card - major pita.

Yesterday Beth purchased something via "Deal Chicken."

About an hour later she got a call from the fraud unit at our bank. Seems Deal Chicken runs the cards through Chicago. The unit wanted to know if we were in Chicago.

DRF has/had web site problems as well. I hope no one hacked it (not a comforting thought).

Your betting account with the DRF is actually run through XpressBet...DRF Bets is a white-label product...a rebranding if you will...all the back-end stuff (bet taking, account processing, debit cards, etc) is hosted by XpressBet servers....

So if there was an actual data breach, you can blame XpressBet...

However, three or four days (you posted you signed up on June 19) seems like an awfully quick turnaround to have your card number stolen and into circulation among thieves...

Plus, if there were a data breach going on, one would be expecting a lot more posts on here from a bunch of different users experiencing the same security issues...

True however it is a pretty seamless jump between the web sites. I have no idea whats involved with hacking a web site but am just trying to put 2 & 2 together

I would think so too.

I've been doing online purchasing on the net for many a year (I actually ran a BBS back in the mid 80's.) I've never had this happen before so it's just a bit of backtracking and the last one in line gets a question mark.

Again, I not saying 100% that this is where the breach occurred however it would behoove folks to keep an eye on their account.

They approved my MasterCard which is a debit card as well as a credit card. I first tried with a VISA but it was declined. They said that VISA (et al) has a policy not to approve online betting sites.

I would file a police report

I would file a police reportDon't the credit/debit card companies launch their own criminal investigations, when necessary, since they are the ones on the hook for the false charges?

Never heard of anyone filing a police report over false charges, since nobody is liable for false charges...

Credit card companies are never on the hook for anything, the merchant that took the bad card pays. same thing with traveler's checks.

I was thinking it is more likely a local gang banger working in a restaurant, gas station or convenience store. If this is true, there would be other victims and local police would be more likely to be aware of the problem.

I sent an email to the person that helped me get setup at xpressbet. If xpressbet is creditable they must have a security department (which I asked him to forward my email to).

More likely that leak came from some place larger than Xpress bet. CNBC runs a program from time to time they did on Credit Card hacking and how the numbers are bought and sold. It is a real eye opener. There are actual exchanges where batches of them are bought and sold like stocks. It is big business.

This is a more likely cause. Wireless identity theft, happened to me last year.
My debit card was likely scanned will standing in line to pay for gas at a casino. Someone was trying to charge my card in Ohio. My bank called and they were able to stop all charges.

Ding!! I popped a guy once who did 15k in damage with a stolen credit card scam. I couldn't get a witness from the bank to show up at court to verify the charges. The director of security at the bank said the merchants were liable and the bank would collect from them.........and they didn't care I couldn't prosecute the bad guy.

He got off ......walked, we had to dismiss

They are selling these around town now. I predict there will be a dozen members of this forum with hacked wireless debit cards, in the next few years. After all we are a likely target. The racetrack and casinos are likely hunting grounds for these thieves. They get in line behind you at the betting line or the betting machines or at the gas station, and presto chango they have your debit info. I hear the new generation of debit cards will be much harder to hack.
