Our show this week is on Wednesday, July 3rd, at 5:30 pacific time.

The agenda is:

Speed Handicapping
Which races are best to use?

Elim Pct
A new metric for measuring a race's playability based upon your own handicapping.

you do not want to miss this if...
you are a tournament player.
you struggle with playing too many low-priced horses.
you can't decide which races to pass.

Jockey
What impact does the jockey have on the race?
Is it better to play against the top jockeys?

Also, I have found a new email provider so I will, once again, be able to send out emails to you guys.

2. You cannot get a full-screen resolution that you can read. They shrink it down, then blow up the pixels. I want IPad quality.

They may have changed the policy on longer videos. I have put up 30 and 40 minute videos of my kids' basketball games in HD.

However, you are right that they do have a smaller screen size so that when you blow it up it is not quite as good. But the videos I post are not commercialized.

This commercial HD video looks pretty good, even when it is blown up. Given that the producer has a relationship with google they may give him better video. You might consider becoming a content provider for google:

Yeah, you can request to be able to upload longer videos, videos longer than 1 hour. I have just uploaded an instructional video that was about an hour and 20 minutes long. It's free, no cost to upgrade to longer video capabilities.

Here's a link to a video I uploaded today, all free. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kd_IK6vZLT4

I have been told that they will let you upload videos like that but the ones that do not get significant hits after awhile are deprecated.

Perhaps not true. I only know what my biz coach says. And that was like a year ago. I will revisit it with him.

The other reason why they are on my site instead is that the goal is to drive people TO my site, not AWAY from the site.

Makes sense, but you can also place your site's link below the videos, so they can get to the site before or after watching the video.

I'm hoping the "deprecated" portion of your post is not true! :bang:

I think you're missing a bit of market share Dave. I'd spam You Tube with teaser and minor tutorial videos then give them a link, for the rest of the story, to drive the business your way.

I go to You Tube quite often in search of a tutorial (for whatever) as well.

I agree, enjoyed it! I bet you're chomping at the bit now (or more likely you have been like that for the last couple of months)! The fact that he does all his record keeping, by hand, means that very few people will be doing what he does, because they're just too lazy. You, on the other hand can just program it. I found it also interesting that his wagering method stomps right in the face of those who have been saying for years that place/show bets are net losers.

He is definitely a contrarian, regarding his trainer method.

He is definitely a contrarian, regarding his trainer method.

Mr Barile reminded me very much of one of my handicapping buddies who even back in the late 1980s stated "trainer patterns" were one of the last frontiers of profitability.

Excellent examples, and the place/show approach is old school and can still work.

Loved his comment of "I don't want to be a robot", and how he wants to still do the handicapping to keep it fun. This contrasts with a lot of pros who make it so mechanical, they may as well be investing on Wall Street....

Guys, I thank you very much.

I must agree... it IS a game changer. In fact, it has changed my game drastically.

Over the last 3-4 months John has been explaining to me what he does and I have been implemented it in my software. Don't misunderstand - I am not doing what he does. That is, I am not building "spot plays based upon trainer angles."

My approach is always to create a single number for each horse. The results have produced the best results I have had in the last 20 years; ever since the Beyer number went into the DRF and all but cancelled my profit back in 1993.

Thank you to John Barille.

PA,

I got a request from John Barille to get you to let him post here again.

Can you let him back on?

While I personally couldn't care less what stats a certain trainer has, for specific situations, I have no doubt that others can improve their game using a similar approach as you. The important thing that I got out of your appearance on Dave's webinar was that one must include in their method, whatever that method is, things that the majority of the betting public does not. By doing so, one finds "value" that most do not, and finding that value allows one to become a winning player.

I enjoyed the discussion!

Thank you. And more stuff coming. There are about 4 or 5 upcoming podcasts that will interest most handicappers.

And now that I have a real functional Virtual Assistant, I may actually be able to keep up. LOL

As for the book question...

There really aren't any books or materials that do much for real beginners. However, I cannot help but toot my own horn with my Percentages and Probabilities. (http://store.pacemakestherace.com/percentages-probabilities/)

It just contains so much of what you need to know to be competitive.
