I think I just read an article on how well this is doing in Kentucky.

"As vital as The Red Mile is to harness racing, considering both the irreplaceable history and current importance as both a racing and sales venue, it needs your help and patronage to survive. There is no alternative gaming to fund the purses or the cost of operations. The Red Mile is forbidden by law to accept wagers on Thoroughbred races, an integral revenue producer for all racetracks."

This seems like a weird idea to me.

“We can increase revenue for casinos, horse tracks and the state, while exposing a new generation of fans to the excitement of horse racing,” Dancer said. “The innovative electronic instant racing machines are attracting younger, video-oriented people to the sport.”

If they really want to increase revenue they better ask the real horse bettors and not the slot machine players, for their opinions. It seems to me that they are viewing horse racing like some kind of a video game that can lure young people to deposit their paychecks in a regural base.

They have to udnerstand that a horse player represents an completely different type of a gambler than the average casino goer who is desperate to put his money on action with no learning curve, study and analysis..

Really bad...

This is not instant racing like you think. It is a slot machine. While in Nashville I went to Kentucky Downs just across the state borders. It is a slot machine with a different name to circumvent state laws. They are doing well there.

This sounds like something I used to attend at the American Legion and Knights of colombus on their Casino Nights. They'd show video tape replays of races and you had to bet on them without much info. It was very popular in the 80's ( I haven't attended a Casino Night in some years, so don't know if they still do this.) One time I recognized the race and cleaned up, LOL.
