Surprised that no one has brought up Colonial's T-Bred meet.

Hoping for sunny skies and racing staying on the turf throughout the meet. Big fields first weekend with decent prices with a few of those specialist trainers clicking early.

One of my personal favorites, but I tend to like big fields and don't get much of that these days - Woodbine can give some of those types of races.

I am one who does not believe in or like the short meet this year, but as I was told by track management they wanted to add Wednesday racing and start earlier 6pm post time than last years 7pm post time, even if it means a very medicore on track attendance or on track handle, they think it will help overall track handle. I love the track but wish they would have kept the Thursday-Sunday race schedule, and kept it a two month meet ( or longer ).

On a positive note it was beautiful weather this weekend out there, and I am looking forward to this week although for some reason no Friday night racing this week

I brought Colonial Downs up in another thread and in another context. They should run the "Mother Goose" Stakes there from now on.

And camel racing. And 6-9 year olds in jockey silks running a 100 yard dash.

As we used to say in my house growing up - nothing says Fathers Day like a good ostrich or camel race!

It was always hard as hell to find at least two decent ostriches (forget about finding two camels interested in racing, let me tell you), but maybe times have changed.

Use to be a big fan of Colonial Downs. Usually could "modify" a work trip to pay them a visit for a day or two. But... the season is just way too short this year & have lost interest since they are no longer on TVG.

(yea... I know... tvg grates on me too, but only option I have in the PNW & DirectTV) :bang:

To find takeout info on thoroughbred tracks from DRF:

1. Go to Drf.com
2. Put the cursor on entries at the top of the page
3. A dropdown menu appears
4. Select "Track Information"
5. Select Colonial Downs
6. Takeout info is just below the track diagram

I like Colonial. I've been there twice. After all it's 320 miles from my home.
It is also the closest T-Bred track to my home.
That's what ya get for living in the buckle of the Bible Belt...
Pros..Near all turf cards which usually means larger fields. Nice people.
Two of Virgina's best and one the toughest golf courses, Royal New Kent and Brickshire.
Cons....Not much lodging near the track. Ya have to go down toward Williamsburg. Not much a con but I'd like to walk from the hotel to the track.
One more thing not in CNL's favor. The potential for heat and humidity that can be brutal.

Anyone who comes out this year is more than welcome to pm me. I go to colonial every live day that I am able ( which is 80% of meet ) and my brother works there. It is one of the best race tracks I have been to... I am once again just really disasspointed in how they shortened the meet. Jason

You will only have four Friday night race cards starting next week. I am with you, nothing better than getting off work and playing 8 straight turf races on a Friday night
