I have asked this to several people/groups and have never recieved a 'yes'.. I wanted to know if there was a way to manually create pace figures from a past performance line. I know this figure comes in most data files and past performances, but I wanted to create my own. Does anyone create their own pace figures or know where to find information on this subject?

SQ764,
Your post is a very loaded question. It really depends on what type of pace figures you are searching for. I suggest you go to your local library(unless you prefer purchasing the books) and start with the following books which all discuss pace but in many ways.
Betting Thoroughbreds by Steven Davidowitz - this book suggests a method of calculating a beyer type pace figure
Figure handicapping by James Quinn a method of calculating a pace and speed number Quinn style
Modern Pace Handicapping by Tom Brohamer - velocity type pace ratings and how to calculate them
Pace Makes the Race - by Tom Hambleton and others working with Dr Sartin - the TPR method of calculating early and late rating components of the Total Pace Ratings
There are others, but this will give you several varying perspectives of how pace figures are calculated and used. A good starting point.
Enjoy,

Save youself hours of head pain and buy em...Think Bris/TSN has excellent pace figs that can be had for fiftty cents a pop. Creating your own might take 5 hours/card?!

Tom Brohamer teachs handicapping classes in So. Calif. that teaches how to make your own pace figures among other things. I made my own figure for years from what I was taught in class. Tom's figures are also available if you want to buy them.

Hi All,
I believe Tom currently does his pace and final numbers on racing only in California and as Slider indicated sells his numbers. Matter a fact, I emailed him many months ago and asked for a sample of his ratings. He said couldn't do it at that exact moment because he was going on a vacation which I believed included both fishing and golf. But would be glad to send several days worth of ratings at a later date.
Never received it, even after sending a second email. If anyone does check them out, please let me know what you think of them.
Thanks,
Hdcper

Hdcper,
I used Tom Brohamer's pace and final time ratings for years and can say without any fear of contradiction that they are the finest available anywhere. No one else even comes close. The only downside is that they are for SoCal only. This is understandable, as they take a lot of time to hand craft. On several occasions, I helped Tom do these numbers, and believe me they are a tremendous amount of work. Without Tom's phenomenal memory, I think they would be close to impossible.
If you are looking for excellent pace and final time numbers for SoCal, you have found the best.

I would like to know if the requestor of pace information.... plays the races on
one specfic racing circuit? If that be the situation... he should develop pace
standards using data from his local circuit.

Holy Cow, talk about reviving an old thread, this has to be a record!
The original poster doesn't post here anymore, so I wouldn't wait for an answer.

Lou Holloway in his 1956 book-Profit Plays of Racing said:
A helpful pace formula is this: If the horse had a high speed rating at the half-
way mark, add this to his speed rating at the finish.

Yea but, we can still apply the same principals to mammals as we did to reptiles.
