check out today's 8th race at Belmont.
at
8.5 fgs on the turf;

77k allowance race for 3 yr olds and up that are non winners of two races ,
and a discount of 2lbs for non winners of 40k at a mile or over since 3/31/2013

a win for the owner wipes away the estimated yearly maintenance charges
in NY(excluding medical/vet etc) for a purse that often times mirrors stakes money at many tracks throughout the U.S.

These horses aren't exactly superstars based on pace/speed #'s and,of course,
earnings.

looks like an interresting prelude to the Saratoga meet..

looks like an interresting prelude to the Saratoga meet..it's not enough for New York. in New York there are rules that the help has to be paid time and a half after 40 hours of work. the workmen's comp is real high and so aren't the day rates. i am paying $110 per day plus all the other things for the horses. by the end of the month the total bills are close to $5000. if you win a race 10% to the jockey and trainer and 4% for the rest of the barn.

This sure is a dilly of a race. I'm having to wait till I see all the
scratches before I can even come close to deciding. One thing
for sure, because it is a super puzzlement, it could be a good
value bet if yer right.

looks like an interresting prelude to the Saratoga meet..AQU was running non-graded stakes last winter for less.

No matter how good the purses are it's really, really hard to make money, which you obviously know. That 4% stable stake you're paying is very high. I wouldn't go for that.

1% is the norm and 2% is a gift!

I've only heard of 4% once b/f and that was a Delaware trainer who was winning at a 30% clip in the 2003/04 timeframe. I'm not sure if he charges it anymore.

Train elsewhere (like Penn National) and ship in??it will cost you about $700 round trip to ship and you will be at a disadvantage to those that train over the surface every day.

:D

I dont think otherwise, just curious as to how owners can receive billions in free money and still cry poverty.

I don't know that anyone is crying poverty, merely stating a fact.

Every time hear the yearling sale prices, I begin to doubt all the owner crying.
