Had something similar with my similar type of work. I was asked to review the Job Description, which included similar skills. They wanted active surveillance, liaising with national and international security orgs, etc.

Just like here, the executives in charge wanted to completely cheap out. This job was about $50k, which is Chicken Feed here.

Told them, you'll get what you pay for... which is NADA!

No wonder, nothing is ever detected...

Well...that is the minimum. That means one could break the twentys barrier and hit 30k.

But even so...one is led to wonder wherein the lies the greater incentive: No work, no hassles, no pressure to collect welfare, or plenty of pressure, tons of bureaucratic hassles and constant frustration over all the red tape that would need to be cut through.

Do not sell our fine tried and true Americans short, personnel in the field are the best regardless of what they are paid. It is not the 28 K whatever that makes the mistakes, it is the 170 K+ career bean counter that fumbles in our Governments Federal & State every single time.

Don't forget that if anybody is ex military or even the wife of a former military person and has zero qualifications for the job, they will jump a person with 20 years experience in the field for the position because of military preference points and thus get the job. I know a few people that work up here at the Great Lakes Naval Base that got jobs without ever having to interview for the job.

Unfortunately what JR posted has become the norm for a lot of industries. People are desperate for jobs, the initial pay is unfairly low in most cases. Employers have the hammer.

28k, even here, doesn't come close to paying the bills.

There are few industries that are "hot" when it comes to fair and equitable pay. I was hopeful our economy could heat up so good and productive workers could make a decent living, but it just hasn't happened. I don't know why we haven't held DC accountable for this. They've enabled employers to keep a thumb on employees.

I've shuttered at the thought of being squeezed out of my job, a few in my company have been shoved out b/c of their salaries -- they get replaced by less productive and lower paid employees. The economy needs to take off and grow legs, it's that simple

The job postings are designed to attract fresh out of school young people, it is always the trend in a very tight economy. It is my belief that even though there are numerous complete idiots in our system at the highest ranks, the bulk of American's doing the work burning all the shoe leather are why we have not had much more problems as the porous country we are.

Many at the level you're talking about are either not legal citizens, or, plain under qualified. I'll use two examples

1- I knew a carpenter 25+ yrs ago that was told to take a 50% pay cut, or take a hike. Illegals were taking the same jobs for half pay & employers were more than happy to oblige

2- my old boss was replaced by someone with absolutely zero experience in our field (and came with a drastic reduction in payroll for that slot). We suffered as a result in major ways.....The move was made for one simple reason - cut payroll. And we've paid the price several times over for the error.

What I've seen is a reduction in the effectiveness in our workforce at just about all levels. I could go on and on, but it would serve little purpose

If I were to be replaced, I know my company would (a) replace me with someone who made half my pay (b) that employee would be promoted from within, which would mean (c) that employee would have zero experience and lack the knowledge and skills to make up the difference in pay by a country mile

Fix the immigration problem and you're halfway there, imo. That mindset of racing to the bottom has inched its way upward.. "Cheaper is better" is not always the case.

ElKabong,

Not to say that we do not suffer from problems in a bad economy, or that I agree with the current trends in a down cycle. But do believe that the pendulum at some point has to go the other way. We are all reeling from the way things are right now, except for the folks who do not intend to work again and are fat dumb and happy besides being moderately ignorant.
