Is it correct to say that a "neck" is 0.25 beaten length in the decimal format? So, "within a neck of the lead" would be less than or equal to 0.25 lengths?

I've seen this:

nose: .05
head: .10
neck: .25

Yeah, I think that's what I've seen, too, a "neck" being 1/4 of a length.

Anybody else know "for sure", in the data that comes from Equibase of course. I'm assuming Brisnet, HDW, DRF all use the same decimal equivalents?

The lengths behind are stored in .05 increments. The display of the decimal part of lengths behind is typically 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 when > 1 and nose, head, neck, 1/2 and 3/4 when < 1.

nose: .05
head: .10
neck: .25
This is more or less correct but given that lengths behind come in .05 increments, these are the actual stored values that get converted to nose, neck and head in a typical PP display:

.05 is normally displayed as nose
.1 and .15 are normally displayed as head
.2, .25, .3 and .35 are normally displayed as neck
.4, .45, .5, .55, .6 are normally displayed as 1/2
.65, .7, .75 and .8 are normally displayed as 3/4
.85, .9 and .95 are normally rounded up to next integer
