Is it me or are these racetracks going overboard not allowing backpacks coolers or any large items into the grounds of the racetracks.....don't know how many families go to the track to grill BBQ and have a good time.....

But thanks to the 2 scumbags from Boston looks like family grilling days and partys may be a thing of the past at the summer time tracks....

Delaware park is not letting in coolers backpacks thermoses and any other device that would be considered a thread to conceal explosive devices....

Is this really Warrented? What about people that are checking into hotels with suitcases and anything else why isn't that considered a threat?

This is a disgrace and to be honest I played poker at Delaware park 2 weeks ago and the players would have a backpack with them or laptop case but that was ok...

What was once a tradition with cookouts at the track and coolers full of beer all over the place will be a thing of the past (although I do think this will blow over soon enough)

How much of this is the track trying to make extra money as it is a safety measure?

It's things like this that is letting the terrorists win and is a disgrace...

I thing any terrorist intending mass casualties would take one look at most racetracks, shake his head sadly and head for a more target rich environment.

If the terror level is ever elevated to plaid, I'm heading to the track for safety.

And the racetracks know this....they Just want the concession money...and this gives them an excuse to make people not come or spend money they don't have on beer and hot dogs....

I'd love to hit the fast forward button and see what tracks will be left in 10 years with the nonsense......this has absolutely zero to do with racetrack security

Racetracks are very safe places, bombers target places that actually have people.

Tighter security at an event like the Kentucky Derby after a bombing at an event like the Boston Marathon makes sense to me. At racetracks in general, not so much.

Lost concession revenue from people not showing up at all because they can bring their food and beer in is probably offsetting any extra concession revenue from people who are still showing up. In other words its probably pretty much a wash as far as concession revenues are concerned.

Whiz, have you ever considered a career in sports talk radio?

Seriously. You seem to have evocative takes coming out your ears. Lots of ensuing back-and-forth also.

I though about it but I'm a grizzled casino employee....I've had many people tell me I should do sports radio but I'm a terrible public speaker...I talk 80 miles a minute and nobody can understand a word I say........but the fast talking approach gets me pretty good scores in job interviews....

I could do sports radio but my only interests in sports are from a gambling standpoint I have no favorite teams:..that went out the window when canseco got traded from Oakland to Texas....

I figure the players don't care about me so why should I care about them...and trust me the players don't care around you

If you're happy as a grizzled casino employee, I'm happy for you.

...

I suppose that's possible, but considering the brain function in action at most joints, that seems like waaaay too swift a reaction for them. If I had to guess who in the place came up with the idea, it was an attorney worried about liabilities, not a CEO, CFO, COO or anybody getting paid to actually make business decisions at the speed of a pedal car.

Can't think of a safer place on the planet then the Pocono down ls apron or Racebook....7 people on the apron is a high number....12 in Racebook is a high number

I had the same reaction when I read about the Delaware changes. It's a shame. DEL has the second nicest paddock and picnic area on the east coast. They still have the best simulcast set-up.

One minor correction, though: I don't believe DEL ever allowed you to bring in beer or alcohol (unlike Saratoga).

Didn't realize Delaware was that nice.....one thing I did realize is when I went a few weeks ago how big the grandstand is....huge

I don't think they get big crowds there but I think this is overkill with not being able to bring items into the track ......BUT like I said I see the stumblebum poker players with backpacks....stumblebum meaning the players bring backpacks to keep lunch and bottles of water in so they don't have to tip the waitress's and the Casino allows backpacks

It's amazing that you Americans even get out of bed in the morning, it appears that you think everyone is a terrorist and that every item in the world could blow you up at any moment despite the fact that more Americans die every year from stuff like Cancer and AIDS then from terrorist acts.

Has anyone posting here supported the new racetrack policies? We don't run the tracks, but nice sweeping generalizations.
