Tomorrow's Derby will have special meaning for me just to be able
to see it again. My cardiologist told me that my heart attack last
August was known as the "Widow Makers Heart Attack". I survived
the open heart and have done well.
So tomorrow, when they play the song, "My Old Kentucky Home",
I will stand, face my monitor and place my right hand over my
heart as tears form in my eyes as they always do when I hear
that song played. Perhaps it is because I saw a play performed
out under the stars in Beardstown, Kentucky called "The Stephen
Foster Story", during Derby Week one year. I don't know if they
still do it or not but it was the most unusual play I have ever seen.
I was going to recommend it to any traveling to Louisville for the
derby as Beardstown is a short drive away. Hope we all have good
luck with our strategies tomorrow.

Jerry,

May you watch many more Kentucky Derby races from a "normal" elevation" (as opposed to a higher plane).

Thanks for your kind wishes. The Derby in my book is the epiphany of
horse racing and we just have to emerge out of it as better handicappers.
People on this board have been willing to share lots of information about
handicapping and that's what makes this board the best place to spend
some time.

Very inspiring story indeed. I grew up in Louisville and have been to the Oaks/Derby many times, and I think I've been somewhat blase towards it on occasion. When I'm there tomorrow, I'll keep your story in mind as the day unfolds.

And you are right, the Stephen Foster play is very good. Bardstown is only about 30 minutes south of Louisville and a great little town worth the visit.
